Well, searched a lot but no luck.

Removed the ww motor and checked the hose connections.

Windshield washer motor won't come on when activated, but will come on when energized by other 12v source (jumper).

There were 2 searches that turned up:

1) possible damaged (frayed) wire behind the fuel filter. This was attributed to a different problem, but that wire cluster also has the ww motor wire.

2) A "known"(?) problem with the circuit board that controls that connection. This was quoted from a "fix it" online chat.

#1 no frayed wire(s) found.
#2 sounds like a no-go to fix.

Any thoughts?

Yup..... spring loaded.

Just went out to verify .... AGAIN .... pull it toward or push down.... and NOW IT WORKS???

I had just come back inside after a 20 mile Jeep trip to the dog park, and the ww gremlin must have fixed it since the last time (this morning) I tested it. After spending a couple hours removing the pump and testing / jiggling wires / scratching head / internet searches / .... multiple times.

All I can say is WTF ????? Maybe the one source I checked said there was a "known" problem with circuit board?

Well, I'll see how long it lasts.

Pulling toward you activates the pump, and wipes3x, pause, then once more.
Pulling down activates the wipers as long as it's held down, but no pump.

If the sprayer pump operates when you push the lever down, something is out of whack.

Your Multifunction Switch seems a bit suspect so I would replace it before moving on to any other problems.

Make sure you get the correct part depending on if you have factory fitted fog lamps or not.

Thanks for your replies / suggestions. I'm not going to "fix" it until it happens again. It was definitely a some sort of connection issue and that it's seldom used, may have been the catalyst to it misbehaving.

Now that I'm armed with the possible maybe's, if it reoccurs again I'll be zeroing in on those suggestions.

Thanks again. This site has saved my bacon MANY times over the last few years!!

edit: I'll be using the sprayer more often just to keep it "lubed".

Could be that the original problem was just oxidation/corrosion on the WW motor contacts; and that your pulling it out to test it and putting it back in cleaned that up. If so, should keep working for a while. If it does happen again, you might try just disconnecting and reconnecting the electrical connections and see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the replies. I suspect you're right it being a connection problem. Just not which one. If it happens again I'll just try the ole process of elimination on various connections. However, I tried that first before removing the washer motor. The one source I found on the net mentioned a "known" problem with a printed circuit board. ??? Anyway if it happens again, I'll just try a bigger hammer :dizzy:
