So, I first thought this was just a cold temp issue but after more than enough time to allow for the transmission to warm up, I am still not shifting into OD. After the first time two trips without OD, I got a p0700 and p0740 code. I checked my fluid, it was just above the second hole on cold when it should have been up by the hot. I added 2 quarts of ATF4 and reset the CEL. I have taken two drives now and both were long enough that I should have shifted into OD and it isn't that cold here right now, approx. 50-55. Any ideas? |

P0740-TCC OUT OF RANGE Indicates a problem with the torque converter lockup clutch. Verity the fluid level again with the engine running at idle and trans in neutral (parking brake on). It should be a little above the full hot mark even when cold. Scan for codes and clear them. With the transmission warmed up, drive it with OD-OFF. You should feel the lockup clutch apply at about 40 mph. If not, its definitely a torque converter lockup clutch problem. Could be a problem with the torque converter or the trans pump. If the fluid and filters haven't been changed recently, start there. And check for leaks. |

I had the transmission serviced back in October, around 7-8k ago. It does shift into 4th just not OD at 65. |

Technically, both 4th and 5th gears are OD. When you push the OD-OFF button it won’t shift any higher than 3rd. With OD-OFF the TCC applies at about 40mph in 3rd gear. With OD-ON the TCC applies at about 52mph in 4th. |

I apologize I misunderstood. I drove with OD-OFF and nothing happened at 40mph it shifted into 3rd at 30. With OD-ON it shifts into 4th at 60. It doesn’t feel like it’s wanting to shift into 5th at all even when I sped up to 70-75. |

It certainly seems that the problem is the torque converter lockup clutch. Which could be the actual TC or the pump. Or both. Verify your transmission fluid as I described above. Other than that, you may want to bring it to a good transmission shop for a more thorough diagnosis |

My fluid level is good, its between the two holes when hot and when its cold. Is there anything else I can check to help narrow it down? |

Add another half or full quart to bring the fluid level above the full-hot mark. These transmissions seem to operate better when slightly over filled. |

Ill have to try that. I am already looking at cost to replace the TC and front pump assembly. I was also told this would be a good time to throw in a transgo kit too. |

Overfill like Flash suggested and good advice on replacing the front pump and installing a TransGo kit along with a heavy duty billet Hemi torque converter if you go into the transmission for any reason. All good moves.... |

Any recommendations on where to get my transgo kit? I didn't see it on Sasquatch or IDParts. I was planning on getting a TC from a Hemi Ram. (that should hold up to the GDE Hot tune yea?) |

(that should hold up to the GDE Hot tune yea?) Only if the the Hemi TC is a modified billet unit designed to handle the low rpm high torque of the diesel engine. SunCoast TC is one of the best, but they aren't cheap! As to the TransGo kit, Google it, many places sell them, Summit Racing, Amazon, eBay, etc... http://www.transgo.com/products.php?cat ... ent_id=130 |

With 170k on the clock, do I need to just have my tranny rebuilt? I have had a couple people tell me I should but they don't know these Jeeps very well. |
