Ok need assistance on this one...my rear ABS sensor keeps going out. Typically it goes out every 6 months sense I owned it but most recently I changed the fluid in the diff to see if that makes a difference then changed the sensor. I have less then 3k miles on it and sensor went out again. I've already rewired the sensor twice to ensure the wires are good. Any ideas? |

Are you sure the diff sensor itself is failing or are you doing a temp. repair by plugging/unplugging the connector to the sensor and moving the nearby wires around? There are lots of reports of the leads to the diff sensor rubbing on the E-brake cable or the chassis somewhere. You did a good thing to drain and refill the rear diff and replace the sensor but did you clean out the diff before re-filling and re-fill with the correct oil? Reason I ask this is that all 2005 KJs have a TSB issued...I will try to find it sometime..whereby the rear diff was fitted with "incorrect" oil which caused the diff sensor to fail. The fix for this was for 2005 KJ owners to take their KJs to a Dealer whereupon the diff oil would be drained...diff cleaned out completely and re-filled with "correct" oil and new diff sensor fitted. I do not know what diff oil the Dealers fitted to fix the problem or what diff oil originally caused the sensor to fail ![]() |

I've heard about the diff fluid problem but I now dont think that's the problem. I can drive the vehicle find over ruff terrian and can move the wires around with no effect to the abs. It seems its triggered my moisture. When it rains it's fine but its after the rain it seems to go out. I'm thinking possible water in the sensor connector but its rationing now so kinda difficult to check. |

Changed rear diff sensor, abs light still on and no sign of water intrusion...but the sensor and diff fluid were changed 2800 miles ago and I found metal flakes in the fluid...this could be causing the rear abs sensor to miss read...but now I gotta figure out what the metal is from... https://imgur.com/a/ykP3xjk |

Metal flakes in the oil is not good. That is a sign of either a bearing failing or the ring and pinion gear failing. ![]() |
