.....under the driver's side headlight. Symptoms 1) No Headlights. 2) No Fog lamps. 3) No Horn I had to drive home at night with only parking lights. 4) Transmission shifted strange lots of torque converter slip and tach was at 2400 RPM at 50MPH. 5) Engine lost a lot of its' response and was doggy. Acted like a bad BCM, but electrical problems can be like some Politicians, they lie to you. A fellow CRD owner pointed out some problems with '06 CRDs. 1) Bad ground on upper driver's side fire wall. Mine was OK. 2) Messed up wiring harness where it goes behind the fuel filter mounting bracket. mine was OK. 3) Bad ground under the driver's headlight. That was the problem. ![]() ![]() I could not get the nut off the grounding stud under the headlight so, I broke the eyelets off and ran the grounds up to the battery. I painted on liquid electrical tape onto the butt crimp connectors to seal them up. Problems solved |

I caught that ground point rubbing on something before I had problems while changing my battery one day. I think it has bad factory routing. Everyone needs to check this as a maintenance item. Sent from my SM-G965W using Tapatalk |

After going through the pain of trying to find a used BCM, before finding the bad ground, I found a place that rebuilds your ECM,TCM, BCM, or PTCM, and not wipe out the flash to work with your Jeep. Unlike some other places that just wipe off a salvage unit with WD-40, claim to test and ship it. Here is their link: https://moduleexperts.com/modules/jeep-bcm-repair/ After I found the bad ground, they were professional and let me back out of having my BCM repaired. They also appreciated it when I let them know how the bad ground will make the BCM act crazy incase they repair a BCM and the problem persists. IMHO, we should have a Sticky for places that repair ECM, TCM,BCM, and PTCM units. |

There is another one on the inner fender well to the rear of the tire, appx below the brake master cylinder. It's a pretty cluttered area so it's not very noticeable. I agree all body ground points should be addressed as maintenance issues at least every other year, and probably every year in areas of high precipitation / road salt use / coastal beach areas / other corrosive environments. |
