Clockspring had to be replaced in my 2006 crd. I was able to find one in a salvage yard but I was unable to turn the wheel straight before removing the clock spring. (The front end was removed). Does anyone know the procedure to center the clockspring before install. It turns about 5 turns from counter clockwise to clockwise. I would assume that turning it 2.5 turns and aligning the bracket that held the alignment pin when new would be correct but printed on the face of the clockspring is "WARNING REFER TO SERVICE MANUAL PRIOR TO FITTING". Does anyone have a service manual they could check in. |

DO NOT follow the factory service manual or you'll need a new clockspring. The FSM calls for an extra turn after the blue shows up in the window. Cross that line out and trust the blue if your wheels are straight ahead. The pinned version is probably as good as blue in the window. |

Yeah I had to remove the clockspring on my 2002 Export CRD so as to replace the bearing at the top of the steering column. I made a note of how the "flag" was showing in the clear plastic window so that I could get it all back in the same position. Years later I had to replace the clockspring as I was getting Airbag errors. The new clockspring came with a white plastic shipping wedge which is removed at the last stage once the assembly has been fitted. |

The 06 is kind of a unique setup. For me, finding " 0 " required a good scanner, because it's not one you count turns and "reset". The degrees turn is an unchangeable set that you have to view on the scanner as you turn the inner ring. If it's off, even a little, you will get all sorts of malfunction codes. Been there, done that, took half a day to figure out, because all the manuals and online info I could find referred to different setups. Also, if it comes apart, all three pieces have to be lined up correctly. It will go together if they are not, but won't work right. |
