As TKB4 said^^^ the 2006 LHD CRD has a known problem in that the Fuel Filter Mounting Bracket can compress the large wiring harness behind it. This cause wires in the harness to fray to ground or to other random wires. There have been lots of posts on this problem over the years.
Apparently the 2006 CRD has a larger ABS module mounted in that area so the bracket was moved higher!
So definitely remove this Fuel Filter Mounting Bracket and inspect the wiring in that area for damage.
I believe some form of cushioning should be wrapped around the harness in that area to help protect the harness there.
The Traction Control and ESP BAS could be affected by this above problem as the harness exits the interior in that area.
These two errors can also be caused by a bad Clock Spring at the top of the steering wheel through when this clock spring starts going bad it usually starts off as an intermittent error before becoming solid.....which appears to be what you had
