About half way through timing belt change and other major maintenance on CRD #1 and have an injector gasket I cannot get out of the head. Anyone have any suggestions? Cleaned the port with brass bottle brush and soaked with Kroil but still cannot get it to budge.

Thanks in advance.

Are you meaning the copper washer? I just use a hook and pick set to fish it out

Also a heads up Kroil is overpriced and doesn't work for anything, watch the review from AVE on his YouTube channel, he is an engineer who did tests on penetrating sprays and ATF with acetone is a better penetrating spray.

Yes the copper washer. Pick won't get this one for some reason. I have been using Kroil for nearly 40 years in brutal industrial environments. Regardless what the YouTube video says, there is nothing better for metal parts that have gone through severe heat cycles. The YouTube demonstration did not really utilize a severe corrosion situation. By the way, I am an engineer, and some engineers occasionally need to be reminded what their iron ring stands for.

might try putting needle nose in center hole and opening then try to rotate . Possibly angle a small chisel or screwdriver and tap lightly with hanner etc to see if can get it rotating some. I would have thought a pick would get it. Another possibility would be a ringed nail slightly oversized and tap in then pry sideways some to see if it will loosen it. I never had any that didn't come out easily or even stay on the injector. I am not sure how much clearance there is between size of center of copper washer and hole injector goes in but a screw extractor might also work or reversing a drill bit but might also put some shavings in cylinder. I have a hemostat I would try and could even grind slight grove on outside of it or a small needle nose to create a lip that when opened is below the washer then pull up and maybe twist at same time.

Good Luck!!

Mine came out with the blast of an air nozzle. It's the air coming back out that shoots to the sides when going around nozzle at the opening coming back out. One second blast and they jumped up around the air nozzle.

You are talking about the aerosol Kroil not the original one in a can.

The original Kroil is the best thing out there by far !

Got the offending washer out finally. Let it soak overnight with Kroil, then hit the washer with a 1/4" cold chisel on opposite sides. That broke it free and I could get it with a pick. Seemed to be bound to the head with dis-similar metal corrosion. Thanks for all of the suggestions. Might apply No-Lox to the new washers when they go in to prevent the corrosion. Already use that on the glow plugs and they come right out with no issues.

I would recommend going together with a clean surface and nothing on the washer, make sure to replace the o ring, I use a thicker one with dielectric to aid in install and it keeps out the moisture and crud that causes the injectors to get stuck

Glad you got it out. If everything went smooth all the time and was easy you would have less feeling of accomplishment doing the work yourself. Though it seems like on these jeeps there is always something challenging . Probably like you I could do with a repair etc. that goes smooth and straight forward every once in a while or at least once ! :-)r
