I have never noticed before that the circles with a bell shaped object inside that is to the left of the topics posted sometimes are white inside and sometimes filled in black and sometimes have a dot and sometimes not. Maybe has to do with number of times viewed or answered just wondering what they mean or where to go to find out.

I had always noticed the different icon on sticky's and figured that was why because they were sticky's but nothing obvious about the regular posts stands out as a definite answer.

Anyone ?

These are called "Topic Icons". They are an optionally installed feature in the software that is behind this forum (phpBB). Its funny, I've always thought the shape for standard topics (not stickies or announcements, etc) was a tag or a piece of paper in a circle, but now I'm seeing bells too. Whatever the shape, when you are logged in and viewing a forum, they tell you if you've already read a topic (white bell) or not (filled in bell), if it is popular (throbbing bell) and if you have posted to that topic (black dot next to bell). There are topic icons on the main page too, and they have similar appearance and meanings, but apply to forums as a whole rather than topics individually.

It's a great way to scan through and find posts that are new to you, but it only works well if you are logged in every time you read.
