I'm debating if I should get LT or P rated tires. I pretty much set my mind on the brand, I'm thinking Falken Wildpeak AT3W in 245 75 r16. I don't really care about the extra load, but I like the extra tread depth of the LT 17/32 instead of 13/32 for the P. I do occasional off road a bit of gravel and we got quite a bit of snow here ! I know the LT are 10 lbs heavier, so 40lbs per tires. Would the ride and the mileage really suffer from the heavier stiffer LT compare to the P ??? |

Unless you are towing heavier, I would not consider the LT tires. Your ride would indeed suffer, and I know you like the ride as it is. |

I’m running Cooper Discoverer RTX 235-85-16 LT tires. Yes they are heavy but they have been good both on and off road. Just completed a 1700 mile trip. No complaints. Wish I could have gotten the AT3W but they were not available at any local stores.

I have no lift. Bone stock so far. I have no rocks to climb around here. Around here it's Pavement, gravel, mud, or sand. I went with these passenger tires. https://www.trailswestonline.com/cooper-51770-24570r16-discoverer-111t-p-4229.html I am quite pleased with their performance so far. Especially in rain/wet pavement. They've given no issues or disappointments in the last 2 years. The pavement around here is infested with many potholes. I suspect that had I used an LT tire, the stock suspension would not have survived the beating with the stiffer sidewalls. The P series tire is lighter, and absorbs more of the impact making it easier on the vehicle suspension and me. If you do any heavy towing, rock-climbing, or wheeling through brushy trails where you have risk of getting sticks through your sidewalls, I definitely would recommend the 'E' range truck tires. |

I have Cooper ATW on right now, they have 35k miles. I had so many punctures with these tires...... You are definitely going to get better puncture resistance with LT 10 ply tires or even 8 ply tires over the standard 4 ply tires. It'll ride rougher and will cut into your fuel mileage a little, but given the crappy roads you drive on, maybe LT really is the way to go. |
