The tires will knock down the mileage a bit. A loss of 1-4mpg is reasonable depending on tire weight and tread pattern.

If you can measure the MAF (mass air flow) at idle with an OBD monitoring tool, that data is useful to determine underlying issues with valvetrain. A new engine is about 18.3 g/s at idle.

What altitude are you at?

If the question is for me never more than 500ft mostly 30ft.
Can you reprogram the trans computer to change shift points?
Peter

Yes we have transmission tuning available.

A small problem, Iam in Australia, can you do this remotely?

One thing I've learned with these little tractors is nothing is consistent. My first one bone stock got 26 mpg highway at 75mph and when simply installing the EHM and ORM including unplugging the MAF sensor I would get 30-32 mpg highway at 75mph. This one I have now with full mods, same tires and the GDE FT Echo Tune will only get, at best 24-26mpg. As for things that can affect fuel economy in general:
1. Timing Belt not set right
2. EGR (needs to go away)
3. Clogged intake from EGR soot
4. Leaking boost from somewhere
5. Dirty air filter
6. leaking head gasket
7. Leaking injector(s)
8. Lift kits
9. Oversized tires
10. Optional fog lights/brush guards
11. Air in fuel
12. Engine not reaching and maintaining operating temperature.

#12 is a BIG factor with Liberty CRDs, especially here in North America. The O.E. engine thermostat is designed to meet the Environmental Protection Agency's NOx pollution standards, and runs the engine far too cool, even when it is new and fully functional.

Negative on the trans module. Mail in only. You could mail in a spare tcm and have it tuned.

Update on the smoking issue, still paying attention to MPG now that its running right.

New map sensor did nothing.
EGR blockoff plate had a pretty significant effect, more responsive throttle and a cleaner boost build, much less smoke but still visible.
Carter in tank pump was the finisher, no air in the filter at all and no smoke. It sounds smoother than ever and has virtually no lag with the throttle.

The pump install was very easy TBH, went the add two wires route, took no time to add them into the loom and tape it back up. Friendly note to anyone with a Trail Rated, the skid plate is mounted above the hitch receiver and both have to be removed before taking the tank out.

Most recent tank was a 24MPG 50/50 tank, I would say that is a success. I will be going on a more highway trip next week and will post the results from that. Also in the next month I will be doing the Suncoast TC and shift kit, after that I will be putting the GDE hot tune on and seeing what mileage I get then.

That's Great! SunCoast is the best.
Just don't forget to replace the front pump assembly with an updated pump.
There are a couple of small plungers/valves in some bores that wear out in the front pump and can cause problems so it needs to be replaced whenever you drop the tranny to replace the torque converter. See picture.
Plenty of info on this forum about it.
