I didn't want to rob my original exhaust's turbo flange for the 3" replacement exhaust (working 3" Cat yes, muffler no; decibel/drone report coming...).
Had this fab'd here in Baja. Although not stainless, imo the shop did an outstanding job (@ US$50). Aviation-grade machine work, if not alloys.

I'm not selling these. This thread is simply intended to provide a visual example of one design option for others.

Just a heads up you WILL want a muffler... The 3" mandrel bent turbo back that diamond eye made for me had no cat and no muffler and the drone was worse than my 08 cummins with the 5 in turbo back and no muffler... Since I am helping diamond eye to get the fab work done they sent me a 24 inch glass pack muffler and it sounds sweet. Have your exhaust guys flare the tip to 3.5 so you can get a 4 in tip like I did. To get the turbo flange they machined one up.

Did you have to keep the CAT?
I would just got rid of it and put in a nice FlowMaster muffler. No drone, no backpressure on the turbo, lower EGT's, and good performance.

I guess exhaust noise/drone is subjective.

2.5 inch turn down pretty much right under the passenger seat.
No cat, no muffler, no drone.
Not even my wife complains (which is odd :P )

Cat Yes, Muffler No, because I care more about everybody's air quality and less about noise. The Cat may also function as a nominal muffler. Hard answers coming after my new turbo-by-Joe comes back and the shop finishes fabbing the 3" pipe.
I seriously doubt that I'll be deafening the average Harley.

Flash, you are correct (again); personal tolerances are entirely subjective, from noise to pain.

UPDATE:
So, I actually had 4 of these fabricated with the intention of gifting three to LJ vets whom have generously contributed their time and knowledge for the benefit of all.
After a couple of weeks, PM responses have been "Thanks but can't use one", and silence.
So, I'm going to keep one to gift to an LJ tech at some future time, and offer the remaining two to the board public. If you want to install a 3" exhaust onto your stock turbo, this adaptor will allow you to keep your orginal exhaust downpipe intact. I went this route to simplify smog-checks; swap the old pipes in and "there's nothing to see here, move on" (that said, if the smog-tech knows where a CRD egr would normally reside, game over).

Anyway, these cost me just shy of $50/each to fab. I'll include shipping to 48 states for anybody wanting one/both. Please PM me if interested. I won't be available to deliver until after August 1st, so hopefully nobody is in a rush.
Cheers.

There is a HUGE diffrence betweene 3in turbo back and 2.5in. You will understand when you hear it, it is like the diffrence between a 4in vs 5in on a cummins with no muffler, there is a big diffrence in drone, the smaller exhaust has virtually no drone and the larger pipe increases the resonating. When I get time to make a sound clip I will get it posted

Honestly, I couldn’t care less about the sound.
Like I said before, it’s subjective.

It’s performance that matters.
I’d like to see some dyno numbers :P
