So my Libby has definitely seen some wear, but has kept running until the day before yesterday when she died 3 blocks from home.

I won't get into all the details, but I have searched this forum for any info on a P340 code and found Nada.

Anyone have experience with P340 and is it the Crank case sensor? The code chart I have says camshaft sensor loss of signal/implausability.

Love to heat some feedback on this.

You are missing a number.

I suspect you should search for P0340, which is related to the camshaft position sensor.

It is located at the rear of the engine on the exhaust side, kind of below and behind the transmission dipstick tube, and uses hall effect from a lug at the rear of the exhaust cam. It's more likely you have a connection issue. possibly connector came loose, or a pin/socket having a loose fit from years of vibration, but it could be the sensor it's self.

EDIT: The sensor 3-wire loom joins the main ECM loom behind the engine, which goes into the plastic Jeep style loom conduit which passes behind the fuel filter. Some have had wiring insulation issues at that point as well.

Check the wiring going to the sensor and the connector itself.
The problem with wiring behind the Fuel Filter Mounting Bracket only applies to the 2006 LHD CRD...I think they upsized the ABS unit which forced the mounting bracket higher up and then overlap the wiring loom.

I have seen posts but never tested it myself that the cam and crank sensors can fail when they get hot...engine cools down and you get going again. Test was to measure the resistance of the sensor when cold and see if it changes when heated with a hairdryer....doubt this test would work if it is indeed a Hall Effect Sensor! :?

Also if your timing belt broke...you would get that code.....

I am leaning towards the worst case scenario on this one. I have dug into the intake side, and the camshaft sensor looks fine, but I have lost all coolant fluid from the rez. When I squeeze the bottom coolant hose, coolant comes out from under the water pump. The top hose from the rad is empty.

While the timing belt probably hasn't broken, if the water pump broke, it must have slipped.

RIP my Libby.

Honestly, I purchased this '05 Limited in North Eastern BC in 2012, and the first owner never bumped for the undercoat. She's rusted out pretty hard, with the bottoms of the doors going and the unibody underneath showing holes. The rear hatch is rusted out around the hinges and actuators, and the windsheild edge is almost rusted out on the roofside.

I did one round of engine work on her in '13, doing the top end teardown (timing belt, water pump, thermostat, rockers, tensioners, etc.) and she ran great afterwards, but with all the corrosion of the body and harnesses, its not worth my effort.

I'm cutting my losses. While I enjoyed driving her, it's time to call it a parts vehicle.
