I recently noticed a drop of about 50 miles per tank in my CRD. I've done two things recently and am trying to figure out which has caused it...

I did an oil change switching to Mobil 1 5w40 since Wally World didn't have the 0w40. I would've preferred Amsoil but really expensive. Is the 5w40 that much thicker that it would drop the mileage?

Also, I had the TSB 18-018-05 recently even though I didn't have the "shudder"...it was in the shop for overheating and I asked to be updated with that TSB since the Jeep was in there.

Has anyone switched their oil and noticed a change or had the TSB done and seen their mileage drop?

Thanks!

Dave

0-40 is impossible to find around here so I'm doing an oil change with 5w40 from wal mart myself tomorrow night. i'll let you know if mine drops too.

I will bet its the EGR valve.
Have you noticed it to be a little slower of the line from a dead stop ???

Had mine in due to CEL, bad EGR valve, it was slow as a snail of the line but run very well above 2000 rpms. Now waiting 3-4 weeks for new part.

I disconnected the EGR valve electrial connector, it runs 1000% better and seeing an .3 MPG improvement going by the overhead VIC.

Something to look at.

The dealership replaced my EGR valve today. My CEL had come on and my mileage started dropping. It only took them 4 days to get the new EGR in. Could not have asked for better service, they gave me a loaner and asked to keep my CRD overnight just to test drive it and go over it. I picked it up this morning and managed to put about 80 miles on it running errands. So far it seems to be running great, seems a little smother. Can't tell about the mileage yet, but after 80 miles it right below full.

Check your air filter. I had a drop in mpg and so I started to look for a solution and my brother told me that he reckoned the air filter was dirty. I checked and it was so I changed it. Now I'm back to 29.1 mpg (UK gallons).

I know these CRD's are still under warranty but can't the EGR valve be washed out with carb cleaner or a similar solvent?

Thanks,

Tom

The problem will only return. My guess is the dirty US fuel is partly to blame for the failers.

Looks like 3-4 hours to remove and reinstall it. Do not want to do that every 4K miles.
