I'm getting P1261 and P1265. I had the original glowplugs replaced with steel Etecno plugs about 50k ago.

Have read here that when the ceramic plugs fail they can break off and leave dangerous bits in the cylinders. Is this true of the steel plugs? I don't know how long these codes have been thrown; I run with the MAF unplugged so CEL is always on. Just plugged in my reader to diagnose a different seemingly unrelated problem (see recent thread on intermittent no-start)

How dangerous are these codes with steel plugs?

Location: Oregon Coast Dairy Country. Land of stumps, dumps, and "Liquid Pumps"
Just replace them. The metal ones don't fragment like the ceramic ones.
The codes are just indicating that the current through that circuit is outside of tolerances. (ie. not functioning)

The metal ones can swell and get stuck in the head. Yeah, been there, but not on the liberty.

I recall that the old (1986) Ford F250 GPs did swell at times, but the cure for that was to replace them with Bosch ones which would still fail eventually but didn't swell. Not sure on the failure mode of the Etechno. But if they are open electrically, they won't be heating themselves up anymore.
