The P0193 I’ve had before.
Last time it was a loose connection at the fuel rail pressure sensor.
So I spliced in a new connector and all has been well until now.
Today I went through the wiring and redid my splices.
Still having the problem :(

Not sure what to make of the p0653.

Hmmm

Last time the sensor was actually ok.
Maybe this time it really is a bad sensor?

since p0651 is high or low voltage and many sensors have another code for open circuit maybe thats what the p0653 is. You know more about that system than all but a few here . Good Luck! let us know what you end up finding.

So far I’ve...

Replaced the fuel filter.
Spliced in a new harness connector. (AC Delco PT2798)
Swapped to a different fuel rail pressure sensor.

No change, same problem.

I suppose I could have two bad sensors. But that doesn’t seem likely.
Having a fuel rail pressure gauge really helps identify the problem. I can see the sudden changes in rail pressure and feel the corresponding studdering of the engine.
I’ve even disconnected the gauge to rule out it causing the problem.
And I’ve driven with the fuel rail pressure sensor unplugged and experienced no engine stuttering. Therefore confirming that the fault is the sensor and/or wiring.

Gonna start digging deeper into the harness.

I think I’ve finally got this figured out 8)

It was a intermittent 5v short to ground in the MAF circuit.

My MAF has been removed for many years, so that harness connection has just been hanging around and flapping in the wind... :x

Taped up and zip tied all the wires. No more flapping.

P0193 and P0653 are not in the manual for troubleshooting.
So I followed p0191 and p0651.
The first step in diagnosing the p0651 was check the 5v signal at the MAF sensor.
And that was the “ah-ha” moment.

It seems to be back to normal now.
