Post subject: | YETTI TUNES |
Seeking Opinions: I have my older project 05 brown CRD up and running now and am considering a Yetti tune. The torque converter is upgraded so should not be a limiting factor. I do want a tune that eliminates the EGR and MAF removal codes though not that important. 1. Do any of the Yetti tunes show real life MPG improvements over factory tune? 2. Any opinion on which tune has best economy ? 3. Do the more powerful tunes which I assume is the stage 4 get as good or better mpg as stock when driven conservatively? Part II I also have another CRD I hope to get back on the road soon with stock ECU that has stock torque converter. I don't mind changing driving style to avoid shudder as I did it for years. In short I would rather have more power and not use it . My concern is depending on what rpm etc the increased power band is in it may be more difficult to "drive around it". 1. Any different recommendations for tune? |

In my opinion the more power you have the better for fuel mileage as long as you drive it with moderation. The better the power, the less the go petal has to be depressed to get the same motivation so it should equate to better fuel mileage in theory. But a warning, the more power you have, the more you will want to make use of it, so it's a trade off. ![]() For me, I'll take power anyday over mileage! I did not buy it for the fuel mileage.... ![]() |

Good point, so I guess the Stage 4 max tune for the brown one. Anyone with suggestions on the non upgrade Torque converter one or use the same one? |

I’ve ran the Yeti tunes and the GDE eco tune. None of them made a noticeable difference in MPG. So, pick the fun tune (more power). Yeti stage 2 seemed to have more torque at a lower rpm. This made shudder in 4th and 5th gear difficult to control. Yeti stage 4 seemed to have more power at a higher rpm. Shudder was a little more controllable. When driving at speeds below 55mph turn OD-off. It’s harder to induce shudder in 3rd gear. |

Thanks thats what I used to do on others before changed torque converters. Mostly just when going uphill near 1800 rpm or just sped up to higher rpm before inclines. took off overdrive if towing anything at all. |

Torque converter shudder is somewhat controllable using the OD lockout button and by letting off the go petal when you feel it coming on. The Stage IV Hot Tune is probably producing well over 500 Nm at full power so it takes a good TC to handle it. These are the known torque converter ratings: Stock Mopar OEM TC is rated for 300 ft. lbs. max (406 Nm) Mopar Euro TC is rated for 400 ft. lbs. max (~ 542 Nm) Hemi TC is rated for? (have not seen a rating listed) Suncoast CRD-1ES TC is rated for 600 ft. lbs. max (813 Nm) |
