So I think I fried my ECM, (see my post titled “no crank after electrical mishap”)2006 CRD. My ECM # is P56044776BA. Do I need to find one with the same number or will any CRD ECM work? I checked all fuses and they seem to be ok.

you need a 2006 ECU, a 2005 ecu will work but is not 100% compatible with your 2006 ABS system.

The last two characters on the PN are the Revision Level ie. your ECM is Revision BA.

Ideally you need to try get the same revision level or a newer level ie. BB for example but the improvements made are probably not that drastic so even a slightly lower level will do.

You will need to several items programmed into the new ECM such as the SKIS code foe anti-theft and the VIN etc.

Any 2006 ecu will work and GDE can reprogram VIN etc for it to work in your CRD and have it back to you in few days. Sir Sam also I believe can reprogram VIN but let him tell you about his ability or willingness to do that or any other programming . I recently provided a 2005 ecu to a member and sent it directly to GDE. GDE received it day after labor day Tuesday and buyer got it by Friday.

I believe Flash may have gotten a Bosh ECU meant for a different vehicle once but not 100 percent sure or how that worked out I have a 2005 ECU availiable but not a 2006. Here is a link to what looks like one of the best buys on eBay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/56044776AF-200 ... 8305!US!-1

You might also check and see if GDE already has one they would sell and reprogram for you. That might save you some fees taxes etc.Even if you purchased elsewhere like eBay you could still have it shipped directly to GDE from seller.

Guess you could also send your current ECU to GDE to make sure it can't be used . I doubt they would charge you much if anything if its no good.

For general information the ecm part number for 05 06 are as follows:

2005 56044562XX
2006 56044776xx

the xx could be several things it doesn't matter its the 562 or 776 that tells you what year it is from.

Any part number from a 2006 will work, revision wont matter.

I can program the ECU to your vehicle, GDE can too, and honestly they are probably faster.

I just checked http://car-part.com and there are lots of ECUs available for a 2006, some for a very good price as well.

So I have found a P56044776AB, thanks everyone for the help and advice, hopefully I can get this going again. Just to confirm my original is a BA so this one should work after it is programmed?
