Would post this in the wanted section, but don't want to risk it not being seen as I'm in a serious bind right now.

Looking for a KJ CRD airbox lid (just the upper part; I've already swapped out to a V6 lower airbox) in solid condition.

Stupidly, I just stepped on the tube that the airbox-to-turbo hose attaches to, and it's now damaged to the point where the hose can't seal properly around the tube.

Please let me know if you have one. Thanks.

I got one for a gasser, but they are different.
The part no. for just the top part (lid) is: 5159174AA :google:
The only place I could find it still listed as available online is:> https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/mo ... aWVzZWw%3D

Yep, I remember noticing that when I did the V6 airbox mod. IIRC, the V6 lid will physically fit the lower airbox, but the hose diameters don't match up and there's no accommodation for one of the sensors found on the CRD lid.

One thought I did have was to reinforce the damaged area with thin-wall tubing, either steel or aluminium, which could be sealed against the inner wall of the airbox to prevent leaks and/or being sucked into the turbo. Not ideal, but it would at least allow the hose to the turbo to clamp down properly without restricting airflow too terribly much.

Thanks, I'll give them a call once they're open and verify if they have it. I've noticed that a lot of places simply drop-ship from <insert parts source here> and don't accurately list if a part is available or not.

Annoyingly, the mopar.com parts store / search appears to be down right now; that's usually my sanity check on availability.

These guys are parting one out on eBay. I don't see the air box listed, but you could message them and see if they will sell it to you.

If you could find a small soup or vegetable can, cut a short section of it out and fit it inside the hose connection part of the plastic lid.
Then drill some 1/8" holes through the plastic into the metal, then use some 1/8" "POP" rivets to hold it in place. This would reinforce the critical area where the rubber turbo inlet hose clamps down. For sealing, you could coat the metal ring with black silicone sealer before inserting and pop riveting it into the air cleaner housing. See drawing for reference.

Heard back from the seller. They had one, I bought it :D Should be here later this week.

Thanks for pointing that out to me; that's one more issue checked off of the list. Will see what I can do about repairing the original one once the replacement is here.

For fixing your stepped-on piece, it should be reasonably simple with a hot-air gun, or good high watt blow-dryer (1500W) to soften the ABS and allow simple movement back into original place.
careful use of ABS pipe glue will seal up any snapped or split areas.

There is also plastic welding kits available now for repair of broken or cracked plastic parts. Best part, they are not expensive.

Well, this could've gone better: apparently, the KJ that the airbox came from was in enough of a front-end collision that the airbox turned out to be damaged when pulled and inspected. I've enquired as to whether or not the top half survived, but am not holding my breath.

Late edit: forgot to mention that the part is now discontinued by Mopar, and I received an 'unavailable' email from tascaparts.com yesterday. Used now appears to be the only option.

Memo to self and other KJ CRD owners: treat your airbox with love, because they're another item that isn't easily-obtained if damaged. The lower part isn't that much of an issue since there are still plenty of V6 units to be had, but the CRD lid is unicorn dookie.

Some alternate ideas just in case: 8)

I did think about going that route (and ultimately may, if necessary), but given that there's not a huge advantage to them on a diesel am trying to keep stock in this case. That said, if that's my last resort, that's my last resort.

Going to pull the lid this weekend and get a feel for what's feasible in terms of repair. My main concern is that I don't want to do a fix that may later cause bits of plastic shrapnel to break off and get sucked into the turbo, which would Not Be Good.

That is why I suggested installing a metal liner of some kind.
Seal it all up real good with silicone sealer and nothing can break off
