So here’s the lowdown, call me an idiot later. Lol. Put the battery in the Jeep installed the cables loosely and fired it up. I then went to tighten the cables and when tightening the positive my ratchet bumped the ECM? (Silver box beside the positive cable on fender well) it sparked quickly and the Jeep quit and now it won’t crank. I have all accessories and everything else but it won’t even click when the key is turned on. Any ideas what may have cooked, hopefully just a relay or something cause if it’s the computer the jeep will be scrapped. Thanks. |

Start with checking ALL the fuses. |

A similar event happened to a LOST member back in 2015. I remember reading about it; had to go back and find it. ![]() He accidentally let a wrench touch the case of his ECM from the + terminal on his battery, it sparked and then it would no longer start. See this to read all about it:> viewtopic.php?p=873519#p873519 Does not sound good! ![]() |

Strange...the cover of the ECM on my 2002 Export 2.5 CRD is grounded direct to chassis via its mounting bolts so the internals of the ECM should be protected. If you remove the Starter relay and briefly jumper pins 30 and 87 together inside the relay socket the engine should turn over....provided Fuse #8 40 A under the hood is good! This bypasses the Park and Neutral interlock as well as the Ignition Switch and Actuator Pin assembly. You may also have blown the Fusable Link which is the thick wire that goes from the Alternator to the Red terminal on the battery...this would stop the battery from charging but should not affect turning the motor over unless the battery is flat. ![]() |
