Is there anything better than a Provent 200 ?

I've been considering getting a Provent 100.
Its design makes more sense.
Inlet is at the middle, outlet is at the top. And the outlet can be clocked in different positions.
Oil trapped by the filter just falls down into the drain.

Any other good, effective, options out there?

What I dont like about the Provent 200 is that the inlet is at the top. Yes, the filter will catch the oil but oil has to seep through the filter in order for it pass down to the drain. Therefore some of that drained oil will get sucked out through the outlet.

It's a bit odd that the provent 100 and 200 had the inlet and outlet at completely different location.

I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the 200 design, the drain oil is not a mist anymore as the filter condense it to actual oil drops...… The PCV also regulate what's get sucked out of the Provent and it's probably not enough to suck some oil out of the provent outlet if all component of the PCV and the provent in good working order.

I have a 200 install on my Jeep and really like it, the only down side is the size !!!!

X2 on the size, but ultimately it does fit.

Regarding clocking, the 200 can be clocked as well, after a fashion.

I can perhaps later, remove mine to show, but it has to do with how the mounting bracket attaches.

I have a ProVent 200; I only have to drain the canister at each oil change now as it does not seem to collect as much as it did when I first installed it.
As to cleaning and maintenance of the filter element, I pull the element out and spray it down good with spray brake cleaner at every engine oil change. So far have not had to replace the element as it still looks just as good as the day I installed the ProVent filter. ProVent's web site recommends replacing the filter element every 1,000 operating* hours.

As to sizing for the ProVent filter, I remember it was discussed and recommended several years ago to use a ProVent 200 due to all the blowby the 2.8 Diesel engine has with the vacuum pump discharging into the crankcase. The 100 & 150 models were simply not rated high enough to handle the increased amount of CFM on this engine. They last thing you want to do is create a restriction in the CCV system and cause one of the engine seals to start leaking oil. Simply not worth the risk! :juggle:

I realize that the Provent 100 is only rated for ~130HP.
But its inlet and outlets are both 3/4" sized. Just like the factory CCV hoses.
The only restriction would be filter itself, which I dont see being a huge factor as long as gasses (not liquid vapors) are able to freely pass through.

The Provent 200 lets too much oil through for my liking. (but its better than nothing)
My DIY aluminum boost tubes and silicone elbows are proof of that.
I need a new filter for the 200 so I'm thinking of trying something different.
The filter got sludged up when the oil cooler blew.

I saw a post on another site about a centrifugal separator that I think was used by some in either a BMW model or a VW TDI. I have read where semi trucks used a cyclone action (for lack of a better word) similar to the first one I mentioned but I think they are significantly larger and more expensive. It seems like the first one I mentioned was about $70. When I get a chance I will check back on some of my bookmarks and see if I can find it. I also think I posted about it in a thread 2 or 3 years ago.

Most of Spinner's stuff starts around 300 bucks IIRC

When I called and talked with them, they said they recommend it for Cummins 5.7L, and larger, and felt like perhaps the CRD was too small.

The issue is that they run parallel with the Oil filter/cooler circuit, not series, and need to maintain enough flow to maintain proper pressure, when the centrifugal oil cleaner is pulling oil pump volume from the engine while it's running.
Some of this powers a high speed hydraulic motor that spins the centrifuge.
The rest is processed through the centrifuge, and returned to the sump along with the oil used to power the motor.

Wups, I see they've changed their design a little, and now use post-centrifuge oil to power the motor. Much better than the one I looked at before
