The Liberty is shaping up. New discs and pads all round, DS rear caliper replaced and the parking brakes refurbished with new shoes and a new hardware kit. Adjusted the parking brake cable in the console and they're working at last. Changed oil and filter, PO had installed a Furomo valved which made it ez to drain the oil. Still have to drain the Provent container, I'll figure that out tomorrow. Got a fuel filter and a can of diesel purge, that should be pretty straightforward. New set of General tires, Grabber A/TX - Size: 225/75R16. Happy with them! No plans for oversize or any kind of a lift. The tires, courtesy of tirerack, had to be etherized to get 'em to seat on the rims, lol, that was an event, but it worked. New set of lugnuts, bozos with impact guns had installed them, and we had to drill one of them off, and subsequent stud replacement as part of the tire install. Now hand torqued with a proper wrench. Tune is next and fix the transfer case switch. Coming together nicely. She's running great, I keep the block heater plugged in at night, fires right up. Awaiting the HDS T-stat, like to get it before our planned trip to Big Bend and points beyond in April with the teardrop. Thanks all for the resources here on this forum, would never have figured out the parking cable adjustment without the "Tips&Tricks" download. Cheers! |

Over the weekend I did brakes on both mine and my wife's CRD. About 6 months ago I got hers new tires. Westlake AT 245-70-16 from Amazon, $90 each. Delivered to and installed at Pepboys. No lift, no rubbing, and they look great. When tires wont seat the beads I always preferred the ratchet strap method. Wrap the strap around the circumference, crank it down tight, then add air. Always worked for me. |

I'd never heard of it, and my mechanic admitted he'd only seen it done on youtube. Lol, it was quite the exercise, but it seated the beads. |

When I have tires serviced I dont mind them removing with impact but I insist that they hand torque the lug nuts all the time them stating their impacts are "set" at correct torque. I try to watch but not always successfully. I have also had aluminum rims cracked by tire removal but not much I can do about that except check after done for leaks for few days. |

Got a Purolator air filter at PepBoys and installed that. Found the drain for the ProVent system and emptied. I'll be replacing the inline fuel pump that the PO installed as an alternative to the in tank lift pump that from all reports is A: expensive, & B: a good half days work. It started to make noise while the tuner was loading the upgraded files. I suspect it swallowed a bit of air. When I pulled off from getting the tune I only made it 100yds down the road before the motor died. We played with the pump, connections, etc, and a bit of rap with a hammer, and off it went. Made it no problem for the 30 miles home, and no problems today with a couple short runs. I'll replace it, one's in the mail. That and the transfer case switch will be a job for my friendly mechanic's lift. Going to order a gallon of Fluid Film and get a cheap Harbor Freight pressure gun. No real rust underneath the old girl, and I want to keep it that way. Does look like I've got a bit of an oil leak from the turbo, to be expected with the mileage. I now have a torque wrench on board, and twice now I've pulled guys off my wheels who were attacking them with impact guns. One manager came over and watched, and allowed that that's what they should be doing. The other was a flat repair in backwoods Georgia, the kid who I stopped, stepped back, and said "I nevah seen one a 'dem befoh." Nuff said. |
