| Post subject: | P0234 Over boost code |
I’m getting a over boost code under heavy acceleration and can’t figure out the problem. I’ve read and tried a few different things and still the same result. Yeti has been very helpful and sent me a few different codes and we don’t believe it’s tune related. I have replaced MAP sensor about 2000 miles ago, new intercooler to turbo hose and replaced boost solenoid. The egr/fcv was replaced by the previous owner. I think it’s the turbo actuator but when it’s unbolted it moves freely about 1/2 inch. Any ideas would be very appreciated, thanks in advance. |

First thing to try is another new MAP Sensor, they do go bad especially when you still have the EGR system in service. They get all gummed up and caked up with soot. Get the GM MAP Sensor, cost is much cheaper than the OEM Mopar. GM Part Number: 55206797, about $25 https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts ... r-55206797 |

I’m sorry the egr/fcv was deleted by previous owner, the MAP sensor still looks new. |

When the MAP sensor was replaced previously, was it the correct range if it was a substitute? |

Three things that control the boost: Map sensor vacuum control turbo An overboost code means that there is sufficient vacuum to the turbo to open the vanes and max the boost. It throws the code because the vanes did not close quickly enough when the ecm tells it to. This could be caused by a bad vacuum control that does not drop the vacuum quick enough. Or it could be sticky vanes in the turbo. I know you said that the actuator is moving, but there can be some slop in the linkage that will show movement externally, but not internally. If you are handy, you can tear the turbo apart, clean vanes with oven cleaner, re-assemble. Or you can take it to a turbo shop and have them clean it. Otherwise, you can purchase a new turbo. If you have a lot of miles, then the new turbo might be the best bet. A can of oven cleaner is the cheapest option. Not sure what a turbo shop would charge to clean it, but I would guess $100 might do it. |

I’ve got a new MAP sensor ordered, going to try that first, I’ve already tried to clean the turbo but didn’t totally disassemble it. There is something going on with the actuator because at idle when I remove the vacuum the rod doesn’t always move. It’s got 141,000 miles so if I remove it I’d probably just replace it. I was just checking all the cheaper items first. |

I have decided that I’m going to replace the turbo. Has anyone used the upgraded turbo from Sasquatch parts? It seems to be a little better than OEM and cheaper. |

I replaced the turbo with the upgraded one from Sasquatch parts. So far so good, install wasn’t bad besides oil return line. |

Ok after about 1100 miles I’ve gotten a under boost code twice now. My question is has anyone used the Sasquatch upgraded turbo, if so your results? Thanks |

I've heard from several people, none have much liked the turbo from Sasquatch. Seems that it may have a Chinesium core, the ones from Blackbird are far better AND more affordable. If you still have your old one, he does rebuilds that are fully balanced, which is critical to having the highest performance. https://www.facebook.com/pages/category ... 086600275/ |

So it sounds like I bought a $900 piece of junk. I guess I will contact blackbird for prices on his turbos. I would have already removed this one but I didn’t want to mess with the oil return line again. |
