I have been doing some bus hacking lately with my project. I can with absolute certainty say that the PCM sends out signals on the bus with the VIN number, and these get sent out every 600ms. There are 5 messages that when interpreted in sequence, make up the VIN of the vehicle.

Interesting stuff happening on the communication bus.
