Any body had problems with this "red lightning bolt" light coming on on the dash in an 05 CRd? It is intermittant, but does not code the CEL to comeon. Thus, there is no trouble code. The manual says it is a problem with the Electroci Throttle Control System.......is it or is it something else?

I have had this happen specifically when I pull up to a stop with both my foot on the diesel peddle and the other foot on the brake. Like when you come to a semi stop sign, but know your going to get on the throttle to pull out quickly.

...Ok...I'm not going to explain it...but when I stopped this nasty habit, the light quit coming on.

My wife has had it happen to her twice. She didn't know what change if any she had made in driving habits. After shutting down the engine for about 15 minutes the light went away.

I do that so I don't run into turbo lag getting across busy intersections.......but I've never gotten the light you are referring to.

There is some section of the manual that warns if you use two feet, brake and accelerator-- that this light can come on. Other than that, I don't know. I have never seen it-- even when using the brake to spool the turbo.

I installed a right hand drive in the wife's KJ and that light came on. The problem was that the linkage wasn't allowing the accelerator to go completely back to idle. Fixed the linkage, light gone.

Hi Tulsa,
I'd rather not hijack this thread. I could PM or email you some details if you'd like. The parts were a gift from someone that resigned. The wife goes to Tulsa about once a month to teach at the training center. You could get a look at parts of it. We take out the extra wheel and the belt for road trips. Takes about five minutes.

I believe you have to two foot the brake and 'gas' for 10 seconds or more for the ETC light. Never tried it, but that's what I've been told.

That being said I had a blinking ETC light once without doing that. It reported P 0641 VOLTAGE TOO LOW. I was told to take it to the dealer as that could be a big issue with the 5V engine controller sensor power supply. I never did. It never came back (48,000 miles ago).

When my EGR went, I power-braked a few times and discovered it happened (several times) when I pressed both the brake and accelerator at the same time

...AND, then the vehicle moved because I either braked too softly or pressed the accelerator too hard. I suspect that when the anti-lock/speed sensors detect wheel/vehicle movement and the brake/accel combo, it assumes there's a problem and fires the light.

I originally posted the question. I had sold the vehicle to a good friend, and or course, the light starts to come on.

He does drive with two feet. After telling him what I found out here, he started driving one footed. Problem solved.

In fact, he caught the warning light coming on with one foot on accellerator and the other on te brake. Thanks for the input..................saved many trips to the dealer. And everybody know how frustrating that is.

Started up my 2006 CRD today and the red lightning bolt is flashing on and off. I do not drive with two feet and did not find anything binding in the gas pedal linkage. Vehicle has no power but starts right up. We had very heavy rain the night before and drove in the rain during the daytime but no fording of any type.

Any ideas? Thanks!!

In your engine bay there are a bunch of connectors over on the right rear, all the throttle signals go through those connections, I am not sure which connector the APP signals pas through, but if water did happen to get into them it could be causing problems.

Also is your carpet wet? if enough water inundated the cabin and some got down onto the connections for the APP down at the gas pedal that could cause problems as well.

So I would check those two things and see if that cures your issue.

Sir Sam,
No water in the cabin, carpet dry, and the connector by the pedal looks fine. Also ran the scanner today and did not have any codes. Will check out the right bay connections in the daylight an see if I find anything suspicious..

Thanks for the ideas...

No luck on finding any water or other issues with the wiring under the hood.. Connections are clean, no moisture, loose wires or cut wires to be found on the main connections. Guess it will be off to the dealer on Monday..

Found the problem to the warning light. Had a mouse chew thru the rubber plug on the fire wall and munch up the wiring harness in the cab. $790 dollars later, the car was running again.

2006 Liberty CRD, new to me, 160K miles, driving for about a month, no problems.
Highway doing 65-70mph felt throttle drop out for a second but come back to speed.
red )lightning bolt( warning light came on, had no idea what it was.
On this site found a bunch of worn wire harness posts. I looked and looked, nothing I could find. I quit took to dealer.
They tested thoroughly (dealers....) and said it was the throttle pedal itself. Replaced and boom, happened again on the way home...…
Took back to dealer, went slightly postal on them. They diagnosed again, now saying someone manhandled the bottom wire harness to ECM connection and bent a pin. Of course this was an additional problem, not part of what they already fixed, nor caused by them.

Now have a zip tie wrapped around ECM and connector, pulled as tight as I can get it. Will update. Right now I am finishing up a thermostat change and noticed crack in the Air Box to turbo hose......

That's a real bummer!
Hope you got your old throttle pedal rheostat back since it must not have been defective. You might could sell it as a used part to recoup some of your costs?
As to the turbo inlet rubber pipe, this is a common failure item especially if you don't have a ProVent filter installed and the CCV is still dumping a lot of oil into the hose.
Lots of reading on LOST if you do a search about installing a ProVent filter and servicing the CCV puck on top of the valve cover.
IDParts.com and Sasquatchs.com both list the turbo inlet pipes both in OEM and a better silicone version.
