With the intercooler out of the KJ and going for repair tomorrow, I have a few days to catch up on projects that have been pushed aside. One of those is installing the external transmission cooler.
What I would like to do is connect the external cooler to the factory fittings. That way, if for some reason I ever remove the external cooler, going back to running just the OEM one is plug & play. It also means that if the factory cooler ever dies, upgrading the external unit to handle the load should be equally simple.
The part that isn't clear to me: which fittings to use. I'll need one male and one female quick disconnect compatible with the existing lines and cooler; that much is obvious. But I'm not certain that I'm finding what I need.
So far, the closest I've come is this:
https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-73463-800-723.aspxThat could potentially work for bringing the line to the external cooler (assuming it's the correct item), but leaves me stymied for how to connect back to the OEM unit. And yes, I am aware that this particular item is intended to be fitted to the transmission, but thread adapters might make it usable for what I'm looking to accomplish.
Anyway, if anyone has done this before, please let me know what you've used. Cutting the existing lines and changing the connector types is something I'd prefer to avoid if at all possible.
