Just curious how much effort I need to put into theft protection. |

Without a programmed key, it would extremely difficult to just hop in and drive away with your Liberty. Unless they arrived with a tow truck and just hauled it away "repo man" style. The real question is, why would anybody want to steal a Jeep Liberty? They are not rare or highly valued vehicles. Best deterrent is to just maintain a stock appearance. Both inside and out. That way it wont catch anybody's attention. Oh, and dont leave gym bags, backpacks, or any other things out and accessible through a smashed window. |

Lol thanks for the tips but you clearly don’t live where I do. Around here people steal cars to use for transportation. Police don’t care anymore, not that it mattered when they claimed to anyway. So the ease at which a car can be stolen relevant to wether it will be outside in the morning where you left it. |

casm wrote: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U4ZYOBzEEs You know, someone could probably make something similar. Maybe replace the airbag with a Tazer cartridge? Non lethal but still effective Still, without a programmed key, you cant just drive away with it. If there is a way to defeat the Security Key Ignition Module (SKIM) I'd like to know. For my own purposes of course. I have no interest in stealing a Jeep or any other Chrysler product for that matter. |

Lol yep I did something similar. My pickup was stolen so I wired a switch into the ignition but I went an extra step so the switch when engaged would route the starter solenoid wire to the horn. |

You are more likely to go outside in the morning & find you have no wheels ! In bad areas never have good wheels & new tires. They will be on Craig's list Before you get up in the morning! |

Lol nobody steals wheels anymore grandpa. It’s not the 80s. Your car stereo is safe too, no need to pull it out and take it into the theater anymore |

Without a chipped key it is pretty difficult to drive a KJ away. I think that "inside" jobs at a Dealer or other Repair shop could be a problem. An employee there slips the key into his pocket and finds someone who can clone it...he knows where the Jeep is normally parked and drives off with it one night. One could fit a mercury switch that makes when the Jeep is moved and sets off the alarm...would hinder someone dragging it onto a towtruck! A hidden ignition-kill switch helps and I like the idea of wiring the horn up to make a noise. One could wire some sort of solenoid into the fuel line that cuts off fuel...also with a hidden switch or wire up one of the existing solenoids. My wheels and tires are nothing fancy but to stop them getting liberated I have one lug on each wheel fitted with a lockable lug...the spare wheel comes standard with a similar lug! |

On my old Cummins 12v I have a pull cable under the dash. Easy enough to do since the rotary pump comes with a manual shut off from the factory. Guess you could install the same somewhere in the fuel delivery system of the KJ as mentioned earlier but why bother if you have to have a chipped key anyway? |

Just a thought, install an ON/OFF switch and wire it for the power (12v) going to terminal 30 on the ASD relay and hide the switch somewhere. Put switch in between Power (12v) feed from fuse No. 6 to terminal 30 on ASD relay. Without power (12v) to the ASD relay, the engine will not run even if someone has cloned the key.... |

I’m satisfied that chip key will prevent screwdriver jobs in my driveway which is the normal mode around here. If I wanted to put a gps tracker on the vehicle that would be the next step and I already have one on a trailer so I know it’s 4.50$/ month For that option. |

Was thinking about this thread just before. "How easy is it to steal MY liberty?" Well Jett, first you would need to fly to Australia & work out where I live. Then there is a train from the state capital to the nearest major city 4x a day. Bus from the city to about 10 miles from me 2X a day. Then its a 10 mile walk to my drive. Then the dogs would probably meet you at the front gate. If you managed to not get eaten, its a 1/2 mile walk up the drive to the house & the jeep is in the shed unlocked with its keys in it! If you were to venture into the front paddock a bull would soon sort you out. One would probably be bellowing at you as you walked down the drive. I have never had an unwelcome individual here. Never had anything stolen. If you made it to the house I would probably offer you a beer!
