FWIW, the 2006 parts fiche gives a part number of 52129342AD (LHD) for the complete hose assembly (pressure & return), and does show the inline Tylenol on the return. For 2005, the part number is 52129342AB (LHD) for the complete assembly.

What's interesting is that there are a couple of differences between them:

2005: No inline Tylenol on the return. Power steering system appears to be shared with the 4-cylinder gas models. Both LHD and RHD models are shown as having the cooler.

2006: LHD gets the inline Tylenol; RHD does not. RHD gets the cooler; LHD does not. Both the LHD and RHD systems are specific to the turbodiesel. RHD system looks to be very similar if not identical to the 4-cylinder gas setup in 2005.

Not sure what all of this means, and it wouldn't be the first time the parts fiche lied. But it may be useful in figuring out what goes where.

Thanks Casm. I wonder what would happen without the accumulator; would it make any difference? I’ve never seen on on another vehicle, so how important is it really.

Quite honestly, I can't remember having ever seen one on another vehicle either.

My best guess is that without it, there may be pressure drops and surges in the hydraulics which could lead to jerking / stuttering steering action. You probably wouldn't lose steering altogether, but power assistance would likely be inconsistent.

This is the number on the hose the dealership gave me last January for my 05 :

52129342AF ( hose assy- P S )

I've installed it successfully on my Jeep but the the 2 hoses where assemble backward to each other.......

Was it a fairly straightforward hose, or was it that crazy one that passes under the rack with a bulb in it, then goes up behind the headlight then back down to the rack?

Interesting. So from wat you and Mountainman found, it seems both years use the same hose. Unless there was a change somewhere in the middle of the model year.

How bad a job was it? Did you take apart the front end - lights, grille, etc? Radiator too? Was the rack accessible from the front, or underneath?

I removed bumper, grill, headlight assy, rad hoses......

But if you are to do the rack too it's makes the job effective to remove the whole front end with the rad, intecooler and everything, you might as well do you trans cooler line too !

If you want to do the rack alone from underneath you need to remove or move the front diff.... :ALONE:

I also believe the 05 and 06 have the exact same PS setup !

If power steering worked fine on 2005 models, why wouldn't that power steering hose work on a 2006? What changed on the '06 steering system I wonder?

It’s a bit of a mystery, but it is beginning to look as if they may use the same hoses.

Everybody shows the ‘06 pressure hose as no longer available. Some, including Rockauto, still list the ‘05 hose but it looks quite different. Mountianman says he sees the same hose setup, similar to the ‘06, on both years.

I’ve also noticed that Rockauto lists the same pump for both years, but different racks. Their catalog also shows that the ‘06 CRD used the same rack as the gas Liberties.

All a bit confusing, but kind of intriguing too. We have to figure it out; I’m sure my ‘06 won’t be the last one to see the pressure line rot out.

Post or send me the 05 pic from rock auto, or post the link and I'll compare them to the one I have out of the jeep. Actually, same goes for 06 pic, as I have pics on my phone of that. If not, I'll get around to looking it up when a fire isn't headed towards my cabin where most of my tools, 2 vehicles, and my boat are, yikes!

All the part numbers between 05 & 06 are different in the parts fiches. Looks like they made a change between 05 to 06 models?
But it does appear the gas vehicles use the same parts based on the below listings.
The steering rack part numbers are different from 05 to 06.

Upon further investigation, the part numbers compared between the gas models versus the diesel models for the same year don't match at all, none of them.
Also on the gas models according to the parts fiche, the PS reservoir is part of the PS pump, not a remote reservoir like the diesels.
Very confusing looking at the parts lists & diagrams. :banghead:

According to Rockauto, the gas rack is the same part number as the ‘06 diesel rack. That should mean that at least the ends of the pressure line are the same.

Put this together, hopefully it may be helpful to some.
Please Note, for 2005 Year Model Only, 2006 part numbers are different.
If you see anything incorrect, please post, dwg can be updated and another one can be done just for 2006 models.

Thanks, the wind let us not get incinerated again! Hopefully it doesn't change its mind.

I just looked at 3 more or my 05's, and they all have the elaborate hose config with the cooler. That makes 4, I'll be right back with a comparison of the 2006 picture to the 05 parts I have removed.

So I’d say it’s pretty certain that the ‘05 and ‘06 use the same pressure hose. So I wonder, when Rockauto sells the pressure hose for the ‘05, but not for the ‘06, are they mistaken? The picture in their parts list does not look like the hose we know is in there. Is there any chance the hose they sell would fit? For $29, it’s probably worth finding out.
