Some time ago I noticed that if I tried to fill my 06 export up to the top with fuel it would start leaking out onto the ground from just above the tank. If the fuel filler tube was full it would all leak out.
I found that the breather was a 4"piece of fuel tube with a fitting in the end.
Today I replaced it with about 3' 6" of fuel hose threaded up to next to the fuel cap. I put a hole in the plastic that the filler inlet is attached to. Now if its full it wont drain out. It will also prevent water from going in when driving through long patches of water and keeps it away from dust.
Is this a export model issue or do the USA spec KJ's also have the short breather?

Diagram of US 05 US models
Looks like it actually has two vent hoses?
Round thing (no.4) is probably a roll-over protection check valve for the vent. Won't let fuel run out vent in the event the vehicle were to turn over.

That is what I have. The short black hose exiting the roll over protection is where the fuel comes out when full. I have extended it up to the filler inlet. I didnt look for the other vent attached to the filler tube.
As I normally fill from an overhead tank at home, I dont suffer the slow fill issues that the station auto shutoff fillers have. I dont get much frothing when filling.
Will see how it goes.
