I believe I remember reading a post a few years back that it is not recommended to install a locker in the front differential due to the weakness of the 30a case in the pinion bearing area.

I have Front and Rear Truetracs

Front is great on snowy roads - pulls through the corners - no problems.

Rear is more of an issue - if one wheel slips - all torque transfers to the other and so they both spin
if I try to accelerate - I powerslide the corner.
if I did it again - I'd put an ARB manual locker in the rear so I could control it.


What I've heard on the broken front diff's is that people where trying to accelerate uphill - bounced the front end and when the tires caught traction it split the case - I never had any problems

I've had a truetrac in the rear for more than 5 years. Still love it. The unintended powerslides in the snow are almost eliminated by just running in 4WD FT.

I installed an eaton elocker in the front about 2 months ago. What an upgrade. I haven't done any rock crawling or anything extreme with it yet. Mostly using in mud and snow to get to my mountain property. It's incredible to flip that switch and just chug up snowy grades that I would've had to power through with momentum, wheelspin, and road damage. Highly recommend this combo for uses like that.

I ran DTT for several years in all conditions. It worked great for what it is. I have the complete front dif with the DTT all ready to bolt in for sale after I went to an ARB up front.

How does the ARB compare to the DTT up front?

'Scuse my ignorance here, but in 2WD the default is front wheel drive?
I've got a Peloquin (Torsen style LSD) in my fwd Golf, and love it. On my wish list of mods for the CRD I'd like to install a Truetrac, but assumed that the default 2wd system was driving the rear wheels, and that was where to instal same.

Thanks, whew, thought I was losing it. One in the front may be helpful offroad, or for those who focus on that performance factor. As a daily driver, I'm thinking a Truetrac in the rear would be more suitable for my style/usage of the CRD. A recent 8" of snow was a revelation though on the Jeeps' capabilities in slippery conditions.
