New tranny shudder

I replaced my trans with a rebuilt, and swapped out the TC with a Euro. Now it shudders when in gear but not moving, especially cold, sometimes stalling. Is this a function of lower stall speed on the TC? Anything to be done about it? Right now I pop it in neutral at stops, but god forbid I let someone else drive it.

Issues with the front pump, they are addressed in the updated pump and trans go shift kit. also did you perform the quick learn with a scan tool.

Had it installed at a shop, have to ask if they did the quick learn. The rebuild shop said it has upgraded components as per Jeep, would that include the pump, or are you saying thats part of the transgo kit?

The front pump has some plungers and bores in it that wear out with age and mileage.
They are notorious for problems. The replacement units are a new updated design.

Anytime you pull a transmission out to replace the torque converter, the front pump should be replaced with the new updated assembly along with the TranGo kit.
The picture below shows what the front transmission oil pump looks like and all the wear parts it contains.

Looks like the quick learn needs to be done at a tranny shop, yes?

Anyone with a REAL scan tool can do one, we do them all the time at my shop every time we do a transmission service as part is it since it only takes seconds when the transmission is warmed up... I have done one with the snap on Solus and the Zeus, the autel 908 and 906, the launch pad 2 and 3 and my newest launch throttle... with the scan tool get into the ECM and go to special functions and push the button that says RFE QUICK LEARN.. it’s that easy then you follow the prompts and it takes seconds while it checks gear engagement time and it’s complete...

It was discovered several years ago by quite a few LOST members that the 545RFE transmission needs and likes extra fluid.
The 545RFE is a very big transmission and is most happy when you overfill it with from 1/2 to 1 quart of ATF+4. :banghead:

Owners have also figured out that in many cases the transmission dipstick is too long and hits the bottom of the oil pan thus not allowing it to get an accurate reading of the oil level. This also causes the super annoying problem of the dipstick continually "popping" out of the dipstick tube issue.
The too long dipstick also causes a lot of transmissions to be somewhat underfilled with ATF.

Some owners, including myself, have shortened our transmission dipsticks by various means to ensure a higher level of fluid when checking and refilling the transmission after services. There are several threads on LOST if you search on how to shorten the dipstick. :wink:

This may be more information than you wanted, but it is the "rest of the story". :lol:
