If you can drill out the remaining plastic, you could tap it out and screw in a threaded brass hose barb fitting.
(you probably have to remove the thermostat to get at it to drill out)

I broke the small plastic fitting on the thermostat trying to get the hose off, has anyone had any luck trying to replace the plastic parts without having to buy a new thermostat? |

I tried REALLY hard to remove it from my old thermostat, but just mangled it. I think it may be pressed in, but it might also be glued or melted in. |

I have been telling everyone that the O.E. thermostat assembly has been junk for years. Stop wasting your time with them and get something that uses quality materials and is repairable. |

I have an brand new still in the box Mopar thermostat with new OEM gasket if anyone needs one. Purchased it several years ago for a backup and now no longer need it. Will beat anyone's online price for a genuine Mopar thermostat + gasket and will pay for shipping to anywhere in the US. PM if interested. |

Yhe stat has lasted years, over 100k for me. Moved it from my 06 to my 05 when the 06 dropped a valve. I live in MN and have more than ample heat. Once warmed up most winter days, I have to turn the heat control down unless it is below O fairenheight outside. When below zero still have ample heat. At idle, I do not lose heat as drastically as I did with the factory stat. The factory and after market oem only lasted a year or so in my experience and did not keep up below zero. I am not associated with the product, just a happy customer in s cold part of the country. I do not block my grill and run the 11 blade HD cooling fan. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk |

( CNC machined from solid billet instead of cast alu garbage ) - Serviceable so you can change the valve and choose the temperature ( OEM is 176f, wish is way to low ) - The valve is readily available for cheap as it use the Dodge 5.7l Hemi thermostat - Better flow - Has ports for aftermarket temp sensor if you run an electric fan &/or a water temp gauge inside. - Looks awesome !!!!! |

I've owned my CRD since 2010 and 78k miles. I'm at 165k now. I've been through 3 mopar thermostats and 1 stant brand that has been running cool for a few months now. They seem to only last about 2 years. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a hds. I wish I would have done it a long time ago. |

Although the 001 is a superior thermostat, if your thermostat is working, but you are just trying to get the plastic fitting replaced, yes it can be replaced. I accidentally broke the plastic 90 degree fitting off of mine and replaced it with a brass street 90 degree fitting and a brass barbed fitting. I had the thermostat off and carefully drilled the remains of the plastic out and ran an 1/8 inch pipe thread tap in. While carefully drilling, my 2005 CRD appeared to have the 1/8 inch pipe threads in there originally, so I just basically cleaned the threads, I didn't know if that plastic fitting was just pressed or glued in, but mine was threaded. The thermostat housing was thoroughly rinsed before reinstalling to be sure no crap went into the cooling system. I would post a pic, but haven't figured out how to do that yet. |

Please keep this in mind, The Cooling System on a vehicle, no matter how robust or well designed, is NO better than the weakest link or component. Just like a weak link in a chain, when the weakest link fails to do its job, all the other parts are no longer able to do theirs properly... If one component is not able to do its job properly, other components can suffer the consequences including failure. So remember, proper maintenance, regular inspections, and use of quality proper components can prevent other parts from becoming compromised or damaged.
