It seems like my battery is spilling out acid like it is being overcharged, I get 14.6 volts any time it is running, aren't these supposed to decouple the alternator drive when the load is low?

Could your battery got frozen ?

The decoupler use internal spring and clutch system that absorbs the force associated with belt accelerations and tension reversals and permits the alternator to "free-wheel" or "overrun" when the belt suddenly decelerates.

It as nothing to do with the load or voltage regulation.

14.6 volts is fine !

Chances are it’s a crap battery... make sure to buy one from Deka or East penn, they last longest and leak the least, exide is no good and Johnson controls is so so. Pick one up at batteries plus bulbs and get a good one
