Will Jeep 18” wheels fit on a 2005 Liberty?

My 17” stock aluminum wheels have corrosion and I need new tires. I have access to 18” Jeep wheels with 4.5” x 5 spacing. Will the wheels fit on the stock suspension Liberty.I’ll probably go with Michelin LTX tires. My torque converter/front pump is about to be replaced.

Stock suspension?
I doubt it.

What is the overall diameter of the tire?
What is the back spacing of the wheel?

If these are 18" wheels off a newer Wrangler the bolt pattern is 5-on-5 and wont fit without adapters.
A 29" diameter tire is about the biggest that will fit a stock suspension Liberty without any rubbing.
A 30" diameter might fit depending on tire width.

Flash, what is maximum with with 30” tire? Liberty will be on Road 98% of the time. Prefer stock ride height. Would like to go with widest tire that will work. I can check Michelin website for LTX dimensions. Load range goes from SL to E. E would be overkill I think.

What tires do you plan to put on the 18" wheels?
235x70x16 were the largest stock tire/wheel size offered on the Jeep Liberty CRD.
30" OD tire/wheel will not function on a NON-lifted vehicle without a small lift, they will scrape when turning full cock.

Here's what I know from personal experience.

stock suspension:

215-85-16, 30.4" diameter- no rubbing
245-75-16, 30.5" diameter- rubbing at the pinch welds
245-70-16, 29.5" diameter- no rubbing

Excellent information as always and Thank You very much. I checked Michelin LTX website and 255/75r 18 specs our at 29”. I’m researching factory Jeep wheels that would work with the Liberty and also getting a price to powder coat the existing wheels. After completing engine upgrades next item is transmission upgrades. Low stall converter from Florida Torque Converter, Transgo shift kit, new pump from ID Parts, shaft/pump seal and filters. Parts delivery got delayed because of weather but everything should be here today. Fuel upgrade is next on the list with fuel pump install and fuel head replacement. Comments as to in tank or frame rail pump and transmission mods are welcome. Never worked inside of a transmission before and barely understand the concept. Learned a long time ago that the best and cheapest way is to ask someone who knows. Thanks again.

Just so you dont make a mistake when ordering tires.

255-75-18 = 33"
255-55-18 = 29"

Thanks, I’m looking at Michelin Defender 255/55r 18 LTX. Has about 2600lb rating. I bought a new 2003 Dodge 2500 with a Hemi and it came with Michelins load range E. I’ve been a fan ever since. Quiet, fantastic wear and good handling. When it was time to replace found a set off take off Michelin’s and aluminum wheels. Liberty currently has Cooper 225/75r 16. Lasted about 35k. Get 50k to 60k with the Michelin’s on 2500 series truck almost all on the street.

18” Jeep wheels were 5 x 5” bolt pattern so a no go. 5 x 114.3 is a common pattern so today I’ll check back spacing, stud size and look to see if I can find a good looking oem 5 spoke wheel. Got a price to blast and powder coat existing wheels @/$100 each which is too high. I always liked the Torq Thrust look and that may be a option. Or can refinish the wheels myself and see how that goes.

In tank pump pressurises all the fuel line connections keeping the most air out.

Automatic transmissions generally all work on the same principals. Two planetary gearsets with clutchpacks and outer bands give three forward speeds and reverse. What was done with three pedals on the Model-T evolved to a hydraulic and vaccuum controlled valve body instead of feet and pedals. Add an electric clutch like the one that drives the air conditioning compresser to eliminate slippage inherent in a torque converter and overdrive gearing became possible. Add computers to control everything to pefection and your feet come into play again as you walk away from that junk that's too complex to be fixed. Or something like that.

You could use wheel adapters to mount the jeep wheels. Spidertrax seems to be the most recommended and its what I run with 30.5" tires and a lift. About $200 for a set of 4 irc. They will add 1.25" to your offset though, which looks good imo, but can cause more rubbing issues when turning depending on the existing offset of the wheels.
