The transfer case shifter cable has an issue, right now it is in part time 4wd, won't go to 2wd. I can get a new cable, but it will take a few days, and I am supposed to drive it a couple hours away on Friday. Not a prob if it stays in PT4WD, but I am worried about what happens if the cable breaks altogether? will it just be stuck in PT, or worse? |

Did you check to see if the end of the cable is still attached the lever at the transfer case? Most of the time the small bushing at that end is worn out and the cable pops off. You should be able to reach up there and pop/push it back on. If it still pops off you can move the lever by hand back into 2 wheel drive...MAKE SURE JEEP IS IN PARK ! For a permanent fix, you can remove the bushing and use a clevis pin to hold the cable onto the lever. Search the forum for other fixes too. |

Thanks, the cable is still connected, upon closer inspection, it looks like the forward drive shaft lost a boot at the TC, and threw a couple bolts, I think the metal spanner that is seated under every 2 bolts came loose on one side and flailed the cable for a while, tearing up the cable boot and doing something to keep it from shifting back to 2wd (not enough cable slack). The cable still looks in good enough shape, maybe the bushing won't let the lever all the way out or something. Either way, if my WCS is manually putting it in 2WD, I'll prob take the chance. Going to drive it tomorrow and see if I can replace the boot and bolts. |
