I know the recommended interval to change the timing belt is 100,000 miles. Is there a time limitation as well? After how many years should you replace the timing belt (even though you have not yet hit 100,000 miles)?

Most recommend around 6-7 Years & 100k mileage. But there have been some that have reported on LOST of exceeding 10 years on OEM belt.
It is a gamble to push the limits of the belt life. :juggle:
It is now also the recommendation to replace all exhaust valves before exceeding 200k mileage. This is due to the reported failed/broken exhaust valves on higher mileage vehicles.

Thank you for the info. My 2005 CRD had its first timing belt change in 2014 at 100,000 miles. I am now at 167,000 miles about 7 years later, so it sounds like it should be done in the near future.

Do you know of any good mobile mechanics that service the upstate NY area? I would prefer to not go to a dealer.

I thought my ears were tingling...... :)

The timing belt limit is 6 years from the manufacturer of the belt - so you are due, and with your mileage I would suggest this would be a good time to do the valve replacement as well. This would be my Level 3 service, and includes ALL of the design-flaw resolutions that the community has worked out, fully bulletproofing the engine for another at least 200k miles (100k on the belt).

I will email you through the board, but just in case that doesn't work (there have been issues with the board's software in recent memory) my email is: jeep [at] maincomputer [dot com]
