Post subject:  PML Deep Sump Transmission Oil Pan Upgrade

Just completed installing the new deep sump cast aluminum PML transmission oil pan today along with new Mopar transmission oil filters. The pan is a beauty with cooling fins inside and out and fit perfectly along with having a drain plug and a tapped location in the side of the pan for a transmission temperature gauge sensor.
Huge difference in size as compared to the stock oil pan that was removed.
LubeLocker Gasket is super nice since it requires no sealant.
Hoping it will make a huge difference in transmission temperatures when towing loads in higher ambient temperatures.
Took 8 quarts of ATF+4 so far, may still have to add a little more ATF after it settles some overnight.
Still have to drop my custom skid plate about 2 inches in the rear and 1 inch in the front to provide enough clearance to the bottom of the new oil pan; that will be tomorrows project.

Anybody need a stock OEM transmission oil pan, I got one.

I have their transmission and differential covers on my duramax. Nicely made pieces. Of course in a pure vanity play, i had them powdered red to match the truck and probably eliminated most of the additional cooling capacity. :D

So far preliminary observations are showing a 25 deg. drop in transmission fluid temperature while driving in town stop and go driving in ~95 deg. F ambient air temperature.
A test towing about a 4k load uphill with high 90's temperatures and high humidity will be the real test of how much a difference the big pan makes.

Looks like a great upgrade William.

So far, very happy with it; wish I had done it a few years ago now. :banghead:

I wonder how it stacks up against my grill guard mounted tranny cooler. IIRC the shop that installed it when I had my tranny rebuilt said they got ~20 degrees cooler temps inlet to outlet. Ambient temps locally are pushing 90+ at the moment.

Since installing the deep sump finned pan and driving it in some very high 90's temperatures along with very high hmidity, it has consistantly shown a 30 degree temperature drop or better in the ATF leaving the transmission going to the factory cooler on the gauge. Most times it is about 40 degrees lower ATF temperature in the oil pan itself than the fluid temperature leaving the transmission going to the factory cooler.
With my duel temperature probe, one in pan and the other in the fluid line going to the cooler, I have the ability to switch back and forth and compair temperatures on the fly at any time. See diagram below.
So far, all indicators show, transmission temperatures cosistancely much lower. I am very happy with this upgrade.
Towing in 100+ temperatures should not be an issue anymore. :D

WW,
Wow! Got me beat there. Congrats. Definitely worthwhile. You could test it out West at the moment.

Looks good! I have a PML to install behind my '92 Cummins, hoping for similar results.

Does this affect your overall ground clearance or just at the tranny with the drop of the skid plate? High centering specifically?

BTW, out of curiosity, I saw the Geno's catalog in the pic, did you find some of the parts you used there?

I had to drop my home engineered skid pan 2 inches to give clearance for the deeper PML transmission pan. See picture
My home engineered skid pan covers from rear engine crossmember all the way to the rear transmission/transfer case crossmember.

I purchsed the PML pan from Geno's Garage as they had the best price I could find:> https://www.genosgarage.com/
I purchased the transmission oil pan gasket directly from LubeLocker, they make the absolute best oil pan gaskets:> https://www.lubelocker.com/
I Purchsed the additional transmission temperature sensor from GlowShift Gauges:> https://www.glowshiftdirect.com/
