Those Sasquatch heavy duty gaskets are serious business! I got a couple of them.

What does he charge for them... $11.95 USD? Meh... I get the same gasket made from Durlon 8500 material and can sell them all day for $8.00 USD.

Do you sponsor this board or have a website that takes credit cards?

I'll keep Sasquatch in mind, IDParts is apparently expecting the thermostat gasket tomorrow. If it doesn't ship tomorrow I'll have them remove the gasket from the order and ship the valves and other stuff. So much for putting it back together this weekend...

$1.60 or $12 doesn't really matter on a bill quickly approaching $2000 with no labor, and going on a month without my daily driver (which is arguably a much bigger issue than the money at this point), or the ability to use my garage (also becoming more and more of an issue as things I need to do in there continue to pile up). Headgasket bounced around Europe for a couple days, then went "in transit" 8 days ago with no further updates. My guess is it's in the US by now, hopefully.

Maybe by next weekend...

Durlon looks like good stuff.
Specs are very good.
Not sure how it goes with glycol (coolant).
Probably be good for other gaskets around the engine.
Thanks for telling us about it.

I never replied to finish the story! Finally got a headgasket and put it all back together some time ago! Seems better on the low end now, and doesn't leave clouds of black smoke like it did. I'll sleep easier knowing the exhaust valves are all new too. Seems to run and drive good, only problem is the issue I was hunting when I started this project.

I'm getting a whine from the turbo around 1800-2200rpm. It sounds exactly like a squealing serpentine belt, but does it with or without the belt on, and pulling the vacuum hose to the turbo immediately stops the noise. Putting the old turbo back on didn't solve it (that's what I was supposed to be doing when I started this whole project). So two turbos, same problem. I almost think it's an exhaust leak, could even be a boost leak. Kinda regretting not replacing the manifold to turbo gasket now... Seems to run great and builds boost fine, so I don't know. Turbo down pipe seemed kind "floppy" when I went back in to make sure I'd got it and the egr tube tight, so I'm wondering if the flex thing has failed. Next time my garage is free I'll do some more investigating.

Thanks to everyone for the help getting her back up and running!

If have not already done so, you could do a complete EGR delete using one of the kits, it will eliminate a lot of potential boost, exhaust, and coolant leak points, and it will improve your engines performance and reliability. :D Removing the EGR or even just blocking it off, is a total win, win, for this engine.

Yes a boost leak can sound a lot like a squealing belt. Been there when my egr tube was leaking at the intake elbow. That's been taken care of.

Very interesting.... I had a very similar noise on my CRD - it turned out to be the exhaust manifold gasket itself, up against the cylinder head. It was leaking from the #4 cylinder, and making a squealing noise b/c the leaves of the gasket were acting like a reed from the pressure. Removed everything, cleaned with a wire wheel, replaced a couple studs and drilled / timesert socket on one that had pulled the threads, and it hasn't made a noise since.

Hi everyone,

I don't know if the PM service is still out of order, so i ask here if WW don't receive the message i just send.

I read real bad things about rockers and exhaust valves, but as my english is not so good i'm not sure to really well understand... Can someone explain me what is wrong with there parts ?

My KJ just hit 205.000 kilometers, should i worring about futur potential big problems ?

Thank you

Responded to your PM (email), it is NOT broken!

My message:
Generally speaking, the valves and the rockers should be replaced around 200,000 miles (~322,000km)
So you are no where near that figure yet.
The rockers wear out due to the soot loading from the EGR and oil contamination.
The exhaust valves have a history of breaking off somewhere around the (200,000 miles) 322,000km mark.

Interesting. I have been here a while and don’t recall this 200k mile valve discussion. So what valves do you recommend and where would I buy them?

Welcome back! Considering you've had your EGR eliminated for almost 15 years and you are running the higher temperature thermostat I'd be inclined to say you are much less likely to have a valve failure. The group has much better tunes now than the SEGR. Even better than the old Green Diesel tunes.
