Yet another "throttle-on black smoke" thread. Exploring the spectrum of evils.
- Less than 15k ago I replaced: rockers/ tbelt/exhvalves, all seats/H2O-thermo/glos, etc, etc
- Mine doesn't knock.
- Repeated turbo hell. Just installed (50miles) another NEW Garrett Gt2560 water-cooled. It really, really wants to fly like a rocket-sheep but I have an air-quality conscience so restraint rules. Same accel-smoke prob with last turbo, too.
- Chronic "Underboost" code @ prev. turbo. Gone now (maybe 'cuz light throttle?); currently throwing solely "MAF A Circuit High" code (also present @ prior turbo).

I suspect either:
- My Viking Snorkel mod is totally confusing the ECM's air-fuel metering,
- Vike-Snork's air filter is not passing enough airflow (totally confusing the ECM's air-fuel metering),
- Vike-Snork pipe's air-volume not providing an "airbox" effect comparable to stock,
- Def NOT a timing issue: she wants to ROAR. As do I, but over 30% throttle drops the barometer for surrounding 50kms. Bad.
- Confident that hoses/clamps, airpath all sealed.

Today, I'm removing Snork helmet to inspect filter. I'm going to find the largest-area disposable air filter and gorilla- tape it to the snork's down-tube (sans helmet).
- I did execute one of the "basic" ECM flashes (Post SasQ DTC-elim & "mild" perf enhance). I suppose I should re-flash to stock while tshooting (?)
- Prior turbo was dumping oil; maybe there's enough oil residue in the CAC to spit into intake on accel???

NOTE: Analyzing last turbo fiasco I suspected possible coolant-flow restriction so I upgraded my beergineered turbo-related oil & water lines. To 100%-confirm the oil-supply flow (after pre-priming the turbo) I removed the supply hose (into a change pan) & ran the jeep for MAYBE 30-seconds:
HOLY SH#T!!! I swear, it unloaded two-quarts in under 30 seconds. Idling!
Granted, that's a wide-open turbo oil-supply line; a failing internal turbo seal would not likely pass anywhere near that much oil, but it was still a major education. If the turbo supply-line ever broke... the entire engine would cook in under a minute!!! I seriously doubt that the "LOW OIL" protections would save the day, particularly at RPM's.

After, I performed the same test with the coolant supply-line. Initially, surprisingly low flow volume & speed. However, after about 15-seconds both the pressure & volume appeared to be steadily increasing (as I re-plugged the hose).

Thanks for insights!

So: large, open-air Frame def significantly reduced throttle-on smoke.

However, I'm starting to wonder if the tbelt did indeed skip a tooth. Anybody have detailed experience with 'one-tooth-off' symptoms?

It doesn't misfire, but maybe it is a tad gutless. Not mucho, but a bit. And then there's this freakn temp issue.
I recall that when gas motors are off-timed they can spike temps quicker, but oilers? Not so sure that would be such a bold symptom.

A few pics:

Recent (custom) turbo oil supply line, including the original banjo fitting welded onto a compatible fitting. Note the stock solid feed line, twisted in aggravation during removal, lol:

I also reamed/cleaned-polished the oil restrictor to twice it's original diameter. Beergineering def, but I don't want to sweat whether the turbo is getting adequately lubed:

Cheers
