LOST JEEPS :: View topic

Hey Guys,

Just bought a CRD at the beginning of September. The vehicle has about 150,000 miles on it. I'm currently going through https://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=54207

Just to double check I was planning on replacing the following -

timing belt
tensioner
waterpump

I've noticed that https://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=47123 seems to be fairly well documented. So I was going to use that for a guide.

Also, the other day the vehicle appears to have started running on 3 cylinders. Is that a major cause for concern? I'm planning on taking it to the dealer on Monday to get some readings off of it.

Maybe Mountain man isnt too far away if he is still around and you need hands on experience. ? he in Idaho ?

Yes, Mountain Man is in Boise, Idaho.

He has quite a collection of Liberty CRD vehicles, some of which I think he is parting out. He would definitely be a go-to guy for parts and advice.

Not sure where you are located, but most dealerships didn't know much if anything about these, let alone 16 years later. There is a wealth of information on the forum from very knowledgeable members.

Thanks guys! I live in Montana. I've heard the car was a bit of an oddball when it came to diesels. But, considering how a lot of people drive diesels here... maybe my luck will be better. I did know that could be an issue. Went in with the expectation that I would need to be Mr. FixIt for my lady.

Finally got the timing belt replaced. The Jeep is almost completely back together except for the front grill. I'm still having issues with the rough idle though. Here is a recording of the engine https://youtu.be/tVtt2YOw3i8. Note, I haven't driven it yet. I'll see if I can get it out for a spin later this week. The thing is that the exhaust isn't making any abnormal colors it was clear during idle (condensation visible).

in oder for you to check bottom end (connecting rod bearings) you need to install mechanical oil pressure gauge to monitor oil pressure when engine is hot.
