Hi guys, hope everyone is well, about 5 days ago this red lightning bolt showed up on my dash and sent the jeep into limp mode, I read about this being caused by a faulty swirl motor and read about a resistor mod but I can't find the location of the swirl motor and been going nuts, I'm new to the disel engine world and could really really use some help.
Thanks in advance.

There is NO swirl motor on the Jeep CRD diesel engine.
The "Lighting Bolt" indicator on the dash panel is a warning that the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) has malfunctioned.
That is the throttle pedal you control with your foot on the floorboard.
Factory Part Number: 53013703AB
Check to be sure it is not gotten wet and check the electrical connection to it and make sure it is not faulty.
The APP/ETC (Accelerator Pedal Position/Electronic Throttle Control) Sensor essentially tells your engine how fast or slow to drive as you press the accelerator pedal.
When you press down or lift off the throttle, it sends an electrical signal to the vehicle's ECM, which controls the fuel system and in turn the speed of the engine.
For more information on this item and more, see KJ INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, Section 8J - Page 19 in the 2005 Jeep Factory Service Manual.

From the FSM on the ETC:
ETC INDICATOR
Electronic Throttle Control Indicator
• Bulb Test - Each time the ignition switch is turned to the On position the ETC indicator is illuminated for about fifteen seconds. The entire bulb test is a function of the PCM.
• ETC Lamp-On Message - Each time the cluster receives a lamp-on message from the PCM, the ETC indicator will be illuminated. The indicator can be flashed on and off, or illuminated solid, as dictated by the PCM message. The indicator remains illuminated solid or continues to flash for about twelve seconds or until the cluster receives a lamp-off message from the PCM, whichever is longer. If the indicator is illuminated solid with the engine running the vehicle will usually remain drivable. If the indicator is flashing with the engine running the vehicle may require towing. A flashing indicator means the ETC system requires immediate service.
• Communication Error - If the cluster receives no lamp-on or lamp-off message from the PCM for twenty consecutive seconds, the MIL is illuminated by the instrument cluster. The indicator remains controlled and illuminated by the cluster until a valid lamp-on or lamp-off message is received from the PCM.
• Actuator Test - Each time the cluster is put through the actuator test, the ETC indicator will be turned on, then off again during the bulb check portion of the test to confirm the functionality of the LED and the cluster control circuitry. The actuator test illumination of the ETC indicator is a function of the PCM. The PCM continually monitors the ETC system circuits and sensors to decide whether the system is in good operating condition. The PCM then sends the proper lamp-on or lamp-off messages to the instrument cluster. If the PCM sends a lamp-on message after the bulb test, it indicates that the PCM has detected an ETC system malfunction and/or that the ETC system is inoperative. The PCM will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for any malfunction it detects. Each time the ETC indicator fails to illuminate due to an open or short in the cluster ETC indicator circuit, the cluster sends a message notifying the PCM of the condition, then the instrument cluster and the PCM will each store a DTC. For proper diagnosis of the ETC system, the PCM, the PCI data bus, or the electronic message inputs to the instrument cluster that control the ETC indicator, a diagnostic scan tool is required. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.

As WW said, that is the electronic throttle control error light. No swirl motor involved. I am more familiar with it from one of my 06 CRDs than I would like to be.

You can read up in the FSM on possible causes, but in general it is one of three things: bad readings from the accelerator pedal, bad readings from the crank position sensor, or bad readings from the cam position sensor. Could be any one or a combo of these. And of course it may not be bad sensor(s) but a wiring or connector issue. One common location for wiring issues on the 06's is behind the fuel filter bracket, where the wires tend to get pinched and broken.

The FSM starts out by saying that one should check the crank and cam sensors first, as intermittent issues with one of those can cause this error lite, especially if you are not seeing engine codes along with the ETC lite.

This can give you a hint of where to start looking. A higher end code reader (more than just Torque) can read possible stored codes in the PCM, which might give a clue as which sensor(s) the computer didn't like.

Good Luck with it.
