Post subject:  2007 CRD - replaced brake calipers - bleeding help

Hi all,

In my quest to give some much needed help to my recently acquired CRD (uk spec) I’ve replaced brake calipers / discs (rotors) and flexible pipes all round, and the hard line over the axle. In addition I also renewed the parking brake shoes, all good so far.

Upon bleeding with the engine off (the only way I know how - with a friend in the car depressing the pedal and me bleeding fluid at each caliper) all seemed fine, with the pedal going hard and a reasonable feel.

On starting the car, the pedal is really spongy and slowly goes to the floor if you press it hard.

Does anyone have any ideas? is there a better way to bleed the system? Do I need to have the engine running? Brakes worked ok before I replaced them.

Thanks all,

Steve

I had the same issue I had to buy AUTEL (cheap one) scan tool with auto brake bleed feature. so I was able to bleed abs module.

I didn't get a firm pedal until I bled the brakes at the output of the ABS system, andthen te rest, with the engine running. I think the manual called for a single pedal pump and hold, then bleed; instead of the normal many pumps, hold, bleed method.
