Been using Liberty as my primary vehicle lately. 170,200 miles on the odometer. Drove about 10 miles today with the Jeep running great. Stopped for 15 minutes. Started and it didn’t have power. Drove home and checked intercooler and intake hoses and all looked well. Checked dtc and got PO299 supercharger turbo under boost. Did not clear code and went for a test drive and ran normal with power. Using this site and with the help of everyone who contributes I was able to complete a number upgrades for reliability. Lately I’ve been thinking of replacing the turbo and turbo vacuum controller. The intercooler hoses and intake hose were replaced. If this is intermittent could it be the turbo vacuum controller? Trying to figure out what to check. Thanks. |

P0299 -- Turbo/super charger – low boost Mechanical fault Says mechanical fault, check for full stroke of turbo vanes/actuator. Might try spraying it good with some penetrating oil and working the vane rod by hand while you have the vacuum line disconnected or use a hand vacuum pump to exercise the vanes. Could be a problem with the vacuum solenoid sticking. You can temporary bypass it for a test if it happens again. See enclosed picture. Turbo modulator valve should give totally different DTC if it is having problems. Next, think about replacing ALL vacuum lines with silicone hoses of the proper size. The factory ones are crap, especially the small thin plastic pipe that goes between the turbo modulator valve and the turbo vane actuator, it can split or partly collapse due to heat exposure. See pictures below (2). Good place to order silicone hose by the foot:> https://www.siliconehose.com/ ![]() ![]()

Drove 50 miles later and Jeep is running good. I’ll check the vacuum actuator solenoid and vane actuator on the turbocharger. Lubricating may fix the issue. Silicone vacuum lines are a good upgrade. Research shows 2mm, 3mm and 5mm all inside diameter are what’s needed to replace original plastic/rubber. Paperwork from previous owner shows turbocharger was changed under warranty. TCM from Hemi pickup is working well. It took a long time to learn shift points. I still modulate throttle to shift sometimes. I’m almost ready to install full torque tune. Thanks for the advice and pictures. As always it’s a Tremendous help. |
