Morning All, Need a diagnoses as to what I need to replace. Image shows angle coming out of transfer case for front axle. Really loose, sheered metal, started as a "rattle", worse in 4wd, now rattles in 2wd, horrible grinding noise in 4wd, very sloppy. Is my transfer case done? or is it just front driveline swap? ![]() |

You'll need to replace that CV joint on the prop shaft that connects to the transfer case (what's in your picture) Its a common failure point on these jeeps since dirt and rocks get in on the boot and erode it away overtime. Easy to replace and you'll find lots of how too's on here, just do a search. Parts can be found at driveshaft parts.com Also, you can remove that prop shaft and drive around without it. You just won't have 4 wheel drive if you need it. |

Thanks for the tip. Apologies for layman question, can I just purchase an entire driveline? Like as follows? Seems fairly inexpensive. https://www.driveshaftparts.com/index.p ... uct_id=677 Also I see several "lengths" of same part listed on driveshaftparts, i imagine I need to measure my existing? 03black wrote: You'll need to replace that CV joint on the prop shaft that connects to the transfer case (what's in your picture)

You can replace just the transfer case end CV Joint & Boot without buying the whole driveshaft. You can remove the front driveshaft and still drive your Jeep while you are working on replacing the CV Joint & Boot. If you do not want to tackle replacing just the joint, any good shop or mechanic should be able to perform the service for you. View this post that shows pictures of replacing just the transfer case end CV joint & Boot. viewtopic.php?p=814213#p814213 But if you do decide to replace the complete driveshaft assembly, be darn sure you replace it with the same length shaft you remove. If you install a shaft that is incorrect length, it will self destruct in short order. Both of these vendors are good sources of quality replacement CV Joint parts.
