I just installed a lift pump. The lift pump works good but the darn thing just won’t run. I’ve purged all the air from the bleeder on the side of the fuel filter head. My scanner isn’t picking up any problems. I’m looking for any ideas or advice on what to do next. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What kind of lift pump, in fuel tank or external inline pump?
Was it starting and running ok before you installed the lift pump?

So what happened is we bought the 06 Liberty crd in non running condition. This lady had it sitting in her front yard and wanted to get rid of it. The story was her boyfriend was a mechanic and so he dropped the fuel tank to replace the in tank fuel pump. Funny enough there never was a fuel pump in the tank. So there must be another reason why it won’t run. Nothing comes up when I plug the scanner into the obd2 port. Then installed the cross referenced Dodge Ram lift pump out of a Cummins. So I installed the fuel pump, re wired the harness and got it all working. I tested it before I installed the tank. I actually used the fuel pump to pump out all the old fuel and once I re installed the tank and hooked everything back up, I added about 10 gallons of diesel fresh from the pump. I purged the air and old fuel from the fuel lines. It will crank and sometimes flash up for a few seconds. It won’t stay running for more than that.

Have you replaced the fuel filter?
Are you getting plenty of fuel to the back of the CP3?

You can crack one of the injector fuel line fittings and crank the engine and see if fuel is squirting out.
Could also be a bad crankshaft position sensor, they are notorious for going bad and not setting any codes.
Might want to consider replacing the CPS.

If the engine spins over and is getting plenty of air, then fuel is the only other thing it needs to run. Got to determine why fuel is not being injected.
Problem can be mechanical, electrical, or fuel delivery.

Did the people you bought it from tell you or give you ANY information on what it did when is quit running?
Would be nice to know....
