I just returned from getting some fuel. There was a sticker on the pump that said it was low sulfer fuel and that it was not to be used in 2007 passenger trucks and cars. It said it could damage the car or engine and that it was a federal law. What is that all about? |

Go to the following link to discussion about LSD and the new ULSD coming. ULSD info '07 model diesels will require Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel instead of current Low Sulfur Diesel. |

The possible reason for the pump saying that this diesel not to be used in 2007 engines is that there will be a lag time in the delivery process before the fuel at the pump will be certified as true ULSD. The ULSD is having to go thru the normal delivery pipelines and is picking up residue sulfer from the years of diesel transport. It will take some time for the pipelines to clear out. A lot of ULSD is coming out of the pipes with PPM of 50 or more. True ULSD must be <15 PPM. The refineries are actually producing ULSD with <8 PPM to counter the residue in the pipes. Cliff |

I saw a similar sticker and thought I needed to read that long thread. So, when this happens, can the ULSD be used in ours? I assume so? |

As of June 1st federal law states all pumps must have a LSD or ULSD sticker. Then again by October 1st (as I recall) a large percentage, if not all, must have ULSD. Yes we can and should use the ULSD in our CRD's. Our CRD's use VM diesels made in Italy. Europe has had ULSD for years and does not have the intake clogging we have here with diesels using EGR. |
