Been here for awhile, first post.

I bought my Silver CRD as a non-runner and updated most things on the engine, including rebuilding the cylinder head. Drove it about 3k easy miles and it lost transmission functions while driving home from work. Without inspecting, it sounds like the bolts broke between the flex plate and the torque converter, but I won't know until I inspect, or pull it apart. I didn't think to try the transfer case, just loaded it up and brought it home. I haven't looked at it because I have a much "nicer" Green CRD that was purchased with a bad turbo and #3 injector, so I plan on getting it on the road and then start updating it. After pulling the injectors and turbo off of Silver and installing on Green, I discovered Green also has bad head gasket, or a cracked head. I didn't plan on using my Silver CRD for parts, but its the quickest way to get one of them moving again. I'm not in a hurry, but using my Powerstroke as a commuter vehicle wasn't on the menu, and if Silver didn't go down on me, I would just diagnose Green and go down the path of fixing and updating it. All I really wanted to do is buy a Liberty CRD, find out if I liked them enough to rebuild one, and if so, keep and drive it for a long time. Buuut as things often work out, I'm doing things in reverse and working on them first.

I'm going to pull the engine out of Silver, put it into Green, and then make the updates to Green. While the engine is out of Green, I'm going to replace the torque converter, transmission pump, and will install the Transgo kit. I ordered the TC from Florida Torque Converter, and I plan on ordering the Transgo kit and transmission pump asap. Now for the question, if possible, I plan on buying a rebuilt pump, with Sonnax updates for the 45RFE/545RFE, 99-07. I see where others have also replaced the pump, so does anyone remember if the seal is on the front or back of the pump?

Maybe this will help? See drawing below.

The FSM (factory service manual) can be viewed or downloaded online at:> https://www.colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/
The FSM covers the transmission repair and front pump & seal replacement.

I figured you would be able to help. It's been a minute, but I've seen the service manual link before and forgot about it.

Thanks for the help.
