You probably should start with a good full transmission service, new Mopar filters & ATF+4, and replace the Shift Solenoid with a new one.
Pulling the transmission pan will allow you to inspect and visually see what is inside of the bottom of the transmission pan which can be a huge visual indicator of any internal mechanical problems or failures, i.e. clutch or band material pieces, fine metal particles, etc...
All transmissions will have some accumulation of very fine metal particles, this is very normal on higher mileage automatics.
If you see any large pieces of clutch or band material or you see an excessive amount or accumulation of metal particles then you should be very concerned.
You may want to cut open the flat fluid filter and inspect the filter material for high concentrations of metal or fiber particles which could indicate internal failures. A clogged filter is an indication of excessive wear of metal and clutch material.
Color and smell of ATF fluid can also be another big indicator of internal mechanical failures or problems, i.e. very dark colored fluid, or a burnt or highly acrid smell of the ATF fluid.
P2706 -- General malfunction with the transmission Shift Solenoid Circuit.
Possible Causes:
- 1. Dirty or Low Transmission Fluid
2. Dirty or clogged transmission filter
3. Defective transmission valve body
4. Restricted hydraulic passages
5. Transmission has internal failure
6. *Faulty shift solenoid (*most common)
7. Faulty or damaged wiring
8. Faulty TCM
9. Faulty Shift Solenoid Circuit
10. Shift Solenoid harness is open or shorted
11. Corroded or damaged connector
12. Shift Solenoid Circuit poor electrical connection
P0700 -- Transmission Control System (MIL Request)
- P0700 is generic OBD-II code that is set when the TCM detects a malfunction in the transmission control system.
It is indicating a fault within the transmission control system.
This code may be triggered along with other associated shift solenoid codes or other transmission codes.
