Post subject:  Identifying new and old rocker arms

I've been working on my KJ CRD I acquired last year and the project has quickly snowballed. Long story short, now the engine is on a stand in front of the jeep rather than in the jeep. It ran beautify before. There's 240k on the clock and at 190k a lot of work was done on the fuel system (new CP3 and injectors). I got it at about 235k. I know it needs an intake system cleaning really bad. So things are going to come apart, and a full rebuild it just a few more bolts.

That brings me to rockers and valves. I doubt the valves have ever been replaced and there's no way to identify if they are the ones that may drop a face off, correct? It may be getting Manley replacements if these are original. The rockers I have heard are different, but I cannot find and pictures comparing the two or if they have and identification on them to tell the old rockers from the new. If they've been replaced with the new ones and are not worn, it would be nice not to replace them again. In all likelihood they are probably original, but the more I can definitively piece together, the better. So, what are the keys to identifying the new rockers?

I'm going to start disassembling this weekend, I hope.

Thanks!

The pivot pins in the rockers wear causing extra play. Mine had an obvious difference between old and new when I replaced them at 70,000 miles.

I can't remember the differences, but I believe I bought mine at idParts. They had the updated rockers, and everything else when I tore into mine.

I found wear on several of the rocker contact surface to the valve stem. I also found wear on several exhaust valve stem tips, so I determined I should replace my set. $$$

When you were a kid, did you used to get in trouble for taking things apart and never putting them back together?
:ROTFL:

At 240k you are more than likely going to see cracks in the head between the intake and exhaust valves. Have a machine shop hot tank and pressure test it. I'd recommend at least replacing the head gasket, valves, valve stem seals, rockers and installing ARP head studs. Also have the intake cleaned.

I think that this should get your approval.

Figuring out how to embed an image is a trick.

I think I'm about 8 months into this, so I was wondering if I'd get it back together again.

Very nice! If you need a refresher for assembly, I have a video on YouTube you can use as a guide.

Keep up the good work!
