I need to check my oil pressure relieve valve due to low oil pressure issue. To do this I must drop the oil pan. And from what the FSM service manual says I need to remove the timing belt and the front engine cover for some reason. The whole process as the FSM outlines oil pan removal is crazy in how lengthy it is. There has a shorter more efficient way. Have seen tricks where people disconnect the pickup tube and let it fall into the pan or separate the subframe to get the clearance needed to get the pan out without all the other stuff, but this was on the 3.7 gassers. Would that work with the CRD? |

Would that work with the CRD? Read through the oil pan removal process in the 2005 FSM, nowhere does it say anything about removing the timing belt front cover? Sure you were looking at the 2.8 engine instructions? KJ 2.8L COMMON RAIL DIESEL ENGINE Section 9 - pg. 233 LINK:> 2005JeepKJServiceManual.pdf ![]() ![]() |

Ok, thanks. I mistook what the FSM meant on step 2, thought it was referring to the engine front cover, beneath the timing belt, but it just meant the plastic engine cover that says “CRD” on it One more question tho. On step 15 of the oil pan removal, it says: “Remove both inner rail cradle alignment bolts in the front wheel housing” What are these? Was thinking they’re the lower control arm bushing bolts that are cammed and used for wheel alignments, but in the installation section, it has you torquing them to 35 ft/lbs. Just a little confused on this step and don’t want to remove anything unnecessarily. |
