Post subject:  Fumoto oil pan drain
Coming up on time for an oil change and need to replace the original torx head. I had planned on just getting the new OEM hex head for simplicity and clearance but they are all on backorder.

Soooo, decided to just go to the hardware store but needed to know the size (M18x1.5) and while looking that up I kept coming across the Fumoto or Femco drain plugs recommended here. Upon further research the Fumoto F-102S says it's only maybe 1/2" lower than an OEM plug so that should probably work for me. I don't really go "off roading" but where we live and farm it can see it's share of farm and logging roads and I haven't found skid plates yet (another thread topic...).

Now, looking at the photos on-line, the Fumoto (whether short nipple, regular nipple or no nipple drain) drain outlet portion looks to have shoulders like a nut/bolt. My question is, for those of you with the valve, is that part removable/interchangeable?

OEM Drain Plug Number: 68040680AA /
OEM threads: M14x1.5 (Parts stores have plenty of this size, also plenty available online, Amazon, etc...)

FUMOTO:
F-106: OEM THREAD SIZE OIL DRAIN VALVE WITH M14-1.5 threads
1st Oversize drain plug thread size: M16 x 1.5 threads
F108N: LONG NIPPLE OIL DRAIN VALVE WITH M16-1.5 threads
Fumoto F-108: Lever type oil drain valve with M16-1.5 threads
---- For a long nipple use, F108N (long nipple - use with a 3/8" ID drain tube)
---- For short nipple use, F108S (short nipple - use with an SH10 or SL10 snap on adapter and a 3/8" ID drain tube)

Man WW, you must have a huge cache of parts info on file as you always have a plethora of pics and info for us!

So I was wrong on the thread size I found - it's M14! That saved me some frustrations and returned parts.

The Fumoto site doesn't give the 102s specs in mm, just says "Thread size PF-3/8" but that's what popped up when I searched for the KJ Diesel.

Yes, I have a HUGE Cache of drawings, pictures, writeups, instructions, etc...on file. :wink:

Fumoto's info is incorrect. I assure you the OEM drain plug threads are NOT 3/8 pipe threads!
This engine is made in Italy and has all "METRIC" threads, bolts, fasteners, etc.

"Dimple" makes magnetic drain plugs with a bolt head. They probably have our size. I think ID Parts had the basic non-magnetic bolt style oem thread plug I bought long ago.

I have the bit and tap for fitting an oversize Fumoto valve if it gets ugly. I'd be guessing at sizes without looking at them out in my shop. Trust WWDiesel's data. I followed the thread of confusion on this topic while staring at my threading charts and books and didn't lose my mind completely. It comes down to a few good choices that depend on how bad the drain pan is.

For a messed up pan and a Fumoto 104: 16.5mm drill and 18x1.5 tap.

For a messed up pan and a Fumoto 104: 16.5mm drill and 18x1.5 tap.

Worst case oversize, you can tap it out to 1/2" NPT, insert a 1/2/3/8 pipe reducer bushing with JB Weld on the outer threads, and then use a 3/8 NPT pipe plug for your drain plug or install a Fumoto F110. I have actually done this on one engine several years ago and it is still working just fine. Beats the heck out of having to replace the oil pan!

My pan is in good shape, and I want to keep it that way.

Turbodiesel, I checked IDParts to see about the standard plug and they actually had the Fumoto without the nipple (what I wanted) AND it was cheaper than the Fumoto site! So I ordered it.

AND they finally had the Turbo Vacuum Modulator back in stock so I ordered that too! Now if I can just remember hiow the vacuum lines went before I bypassed it...
